25.01.2022 New Commissioner for NSW RFS. Today, David Elliott MP has announced that NSW RFS Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers will become the new Commissioner for the NSW Rural Fire Service for the next 12 months (starting May), following the retirement of current Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons later this month. This comes after Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced today that current NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons will be leading the new Resilience NSW.... While the departure of the leadership and dedication Commissioner Fitzsimmons displayed during his 12 years in charge of the NSW RFS will be felt across the organisation and the State of NSW, on behalf of the staff and #volunteers of the NSW RFS - Cudgegong District we wish him luck and every success in his new endeavours. Deputy Commissioner Rogers will take over the helm following 40 years as a member and nine years as Deputy Commissioner. 21.01.2022 Planning to Burn? Dont Forget to Notify. With the Bush Fire Danger Period concluding this evening, the requirement for landholders to obtain a fire permit also concludes. However, it is important to remember that although you will no longer require a fire permit you still need to provide the NSW RFS - Cudgegong District and all adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours notice of your intention to burn.... Notifying the Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre is easy! You can submit your intention to burn notice by: SMS - 0408 116 465 Email - [email protected] Social Media - m.me/NSWRFSCudgegong Phone - 02 6372 4434 (business hours only) When submitting a notification, landholders must include: - Full Name - Address (and Property Name if applicable) - Contact Number - Burn Dates (maximum one month at a time) Notifications allow for the NSW RFS to be aware when landholders are conducting burning activities to avoid wasting time of our #volunteer #firefighters attending to controlled burns. 18.01.2022 Have You Notified Your Burn? Early this morning, #volunteer #firefighters from NSW RFS - Lawson Brigade attended a tree fire in St Fillans. 18.01.2022 Brand New Fire Truck for #Windeyer Yesterday afternoon, #volunteers from #Windeyer Rural Fire Brigade were presented with the keys to their brand new fire truck by Cudgegong Group Officer Selman. Members are pictured here receiving an induction on the appliance which features a number of significant upgrades and enhancements that will not only allow our #firefighters to provide world-class emergency response, but ensure they are safe while doing so. 14.01.2022 Recent Rains Help Reduce Local Fire Danger. With a reduction in fire activity and recent rainfalls across the region, the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Cudgegong District will be reinstating Fire Permits for the remainder of the 2019-20 Bush Fire Danger Period. With the 2019-20 Bush Fire Danger Period set to conclude on Tuesday 31 March 2020, landholders wishing to undertake burning activities on their property will require a Fire Permit.... Fire Permits help ensure fire is used safely during the Bush Fire Danger Period. A permit imposes conditions on the way a fire is lit and maintained, and can only be issued by authorised Permit Issuing Officers. The permit system ensures agencies like the NSW RFS know when and where landholders intend to burn, to ensure adequate and appropriate measures are in place, and so that fires remain under control. Superintendent Porter said heavy fines apply for the unsafe use of fire or if a fire escapes - landholders who fail to notify firefighters and neighbours face fines of up to $5,500 and/or 12 months jail while escaped fires attract penalties of up to $110,000 and/or five years prison. Although recent rainfalls have been most welcome, landholders need not be complacent when undertaking burning activities on their property. After what has been the most unprecedented fire season for the Mid-Western area, the last thing our volunteer firefighters and community need is to be responding to and effected by fires carelessly maintained by landholders. Dont be the fire risk to your community, know your obligations if conducting burns and know the costs if you do the wrong thing, but most importantly, if a fire does get out of hand, make sure you report it immediately to Triple Zero (000), Superintendent Porter said. Fire Permits are free and can be obtained through your local Permit Issuing Officer. To arrange for a Permit Issuing Officer to attend your property and inspect your proposed burn, contact the Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre on 02 6372 4434. Once a Fire Permit has been obtained landholders must provide neighbours and their local fire authority 24 hours prior to burning. Heavy penalties (fines and/or imprisonment) can apply for the unsafe use of fire or if your fire escapes. Dont be a fire risk to your community. Know and comply with your obligations. The last thing our #volunteer #firefighters need is to be responding to a fire carelessly maintained by a landholder.
