17.01.2022 "It is difficult to express the deep concern, worry and sadness we all have for the tragic loss of lives, livelihoods, businesses and, in some cases, whole comm...unities, caused by the bushfires that have been affecting our state for months now and more ferociously in the last number of weeks. It is also of concern, on the best information available from the Rural Fire Service, that the emergency is not over. The work of the Rural Fire Service and other emergency services and the thousands of volunteers has been extraordinary. As a community we can only be deeply grateful for their dedication and selflessness. It has also been a time when the community has rallied with kindness and generosity. The State is also in a time of extended and serious drought which continues to have a serious impact on families and communities. Again, the wider community has responded to this crisis with kindness, generosity and support. May this continue to be the hallmark by which we always respond to those in need. I encourage those in need to put up your hand and ask for assistance when and as soon as needed. Check out the services in your local community, all of which are there to help and support you. To the countless volunteers who have bravely fought these fires; to those who have donated food, clothing and money; to those who have opened up their homes to strangers; to those that have cared for the injured and the frightened; and to those who over such a long period have supported our drought affected communities, I extend heartfelt gratitude both personally and on behalf of the people of New South Wales." #GovernorNSW #bushfires

06.01.2022 HARVEST FIRES There have been a number of header and farm machinery fires recently, a timely reminder of the risks around harvest time and precautions to preven...t the loss of machinery and crops. YOUR CROP = YOUR DECISION It is your responsibility to limit the ignition and prevent the spread of fires from your property. MAINITAIN YOUR MACHINERY You should ensure that machinery is *Free from faults or mechanical defects that could start a fire *Fitted with an approved spark arrestor *Carrying fire suppression equipment such as a 9L water extinguisher, 0.9 dry powder extinguisher or a 16L knapsack spray pump filled with water CREATE FIREBREAKS Firebreaks can help stop crop and grass fires from spreading to valuable assets. The NSW RFS recommends you mow, graze or plough around crops, valuable assets and fence lines to prevent fires from escaping your property and reduce the likelihood of fires entering. 03.01.2022 Today marks the official end to the most devastating bush fire season in the states history. Firefighters have responded to more than 11,400 bush and grass fir...es that have burnt more than 5.5 million hectares, the equivalent of 6.2% of the state. 2,448 homes were destroyed however more than 14,400 were saved. Most tragically 25 lives were lost including those of three NSW RFS volunteers and 3 US aerial firefighters. The response of emergency services and the community over these months has been nothing short of amazing.

03.01.2022 There have been so many emergency vehicles driving through bushfire-affected towns of New South Wales, it seems as though one magpie has picked up the tune. Th...is is one of the coolest things ever. Today I met an Australian magpie in Newcastle NSW which had learned to sing the calls of fire-engines and ambulances. Gregory Andrews. See more
