22.01.2022 Due to a car crossing flooded waters, getting stuck and nearly sending two people downstream off Oallen Ford Road, QPRC Works crews have been requested to close Nerriga Road and Oallen Ford Road at the intersection of both roads. You will not be able to access Nerriga from the west. You will not be allowed to access Oallen Ford Road from the south. If it’s flooded, forget it.... For storm and flood assistance please contact the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500. In a life threatening situation call Triple 000.

19.01.2022 Bungendore Rural Fire Brigade has just returned from a flood affected vehicle stuck on Tarago Road at Bungendore. The person was removed from the vehicle, a little embarrassed, but unhurt. Please, if it’s flooded, forget it!

13.01.2022 Lake George RFS members have just attended a Search and Rescue in the Berlang area. NSW Police, NSW SES and FRNSW are currently on scene and will conduct rescue operations. The RFS is standing down as they are not required. When it rains a lot, rivers swell with water. What you once crossed when water levels were low can quickly become impassable. The area of concern is now 3m deep, metres wider than what it was and the water levels are still rising. Water is flowing strongly... and you don’t know what is coming down with it. As upstream was fire affected, this could include large trees and branches. It also night. This is not low risk situation. Check the weather before leaving and remember; if it’s flooded, forget it.

12.01.2022 Next weekend is the official NSW RFS Get Ready weekend. In Lake George district we have nine brigades registered for Get Ready, but some are running on alternative dates to better suit their communities. Check http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and-media/getready to see if your local brigade is registered and when they'll be on deck to field your queries

10.01.2022 Reminder - if you're proposing to burn in the open, please notify the RFS using the new online notification page. This has to be done a minimum of 24 hrs ahead of the burn, along with notifying your immediate neighbours https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inform//burn-notifications You only need to call our office (6128 0600 BH) if you're having difficulty with this process. At this time the bush fire danger period is expected to commence in Lake George (QPRC) on October 1st, from which time you'll need to obtain a permit from your local brigade as well as notify us and neighbours.

10.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE Bush fire season guidelines The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is reminding Lake George District (QPRC) residents that fire permits are required during the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period. NSW RFS Superintendent Paul Jones said hotter and drier conditions mean fires are more likely to start and spread quickly during the Bush Fire Danger Period, which officially begins on 1 October.... From now until the end of the Bush Fire Danger Period, people wishing to light a fire in the open will require a permit, which are free and can be obtained from your local fire station or Fire Control Centre, Supt. Paul Jones said. When conditions are particularly bad, such as on days of Severe, Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger, the NSW RFS may declare a Total Fire Ban, prohibiting the lighting of any fire in the open, even if you have a fire permit. On a day of Total Fire Ban the lighting of fires is prohibited. This includes cooking fires using incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel, such as wood or charcoal. Gas or electric barbecues are permitted during a Total Fire Ban under the following conditions: They are on residential property within 20 metres of the house or dwelling, or They are in a picnic area and the appliance is approved by Council, National Parks and Wildlife Services or State Forest, and They are under the direct control of a responsible adult, and The ground around a barbecue is cleared for 2 metres of all material which could burn, and You have an immediate and continuous supply of water available. We urge all residents in the Lake George District area to be vigilant and extremely careful with fire during the Bush Fire Danger Period, Supt. Paul Jones said. Every resident should have a Bush Fire Survival Plan so they know what to do on days of increased fire danger and can immediately put their plan into action if their home is threatened by fire. Information about Total Fire Ban declarations is published at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au . Locals can also call the Lake George Fire Control Centre on 6128 0600 (bh) or the Bushfire Information Line on 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737). See more
