24.01.2022 Our Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook: December 2020 February 2021 is out today, and shows that large parts of NSW west of the Great Dividing Range face ab...ove normal fire conditions, as well as grassland areas of the ACT and into north eastern Victoria. Grass and crop fires are the main concern in these locations for the summer months as the growth dries out in the warmer weather. WA has largely missed out on the rainfall in 2020 and conditions are very dry, with parts of the south and south west coasts expecting above normal fire conditions through summer. 11.01.2022 As part of a new Australian Warning System, the way incidents are displayed on the NSWRFS website and the Fire Near Me app is changing from early December. This... National initiative aims to have all states and territories displaying incidents consistently no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. For more information please visit: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

09.01.2022 Smoke is impacting Mona Vale Road due to a wind change at the JJ Hills Melbourne HR. If you are traveling through the area please be cautious of low visibility.

09.01.2022 Did you know there are limited weather windows of opportunity for firefighters to conduct hazard reduction (HR) burns. This Sunday, NPWS and NSW RFS firefighte...rs including brigade members, will be completing the Smiths Creek East HR, which will treat over 125ha of vegetation. Smoke may impact the community and will be visible in Terrey Hills. Remember to take the following precautionary steps: - Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes - Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns - Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage - Remove washing from clotheslines - Ensure pets have a protected area - If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice. For all details on HR’s you can visit the NSW RFS website or check out the Fires Near Me App.

08.01.2022 The heat is back... for Western Sydney on Tuesday as strong Northwesterly winds continue to smash NSW. Temperatures in Sydney City will be moderated by a hum...id sea breeze, so temperatures are expected to reach 30C. 06.01.2022 NSW PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT NORTHERN BEACHES NSW Health can advise that 17 cases of COVID-19 have now been identified in the Northern Beaches area, including case...s diagnosed yesterday and today. As a number of new cases are currently being interviewed, it is likely that a number of new venues will be identified and that people in the northern beaches may have attended these venues. Therefore, to assist contact tracing and to contain any potential spread of COVID-19, we ask that for the next three days, people residing in the Northern Beaches Local Government Area take the following steps: Work from home and remain at home as much as possible Do not visit friends or relatives in aged care facilities or hospitals unless essential Avoid unnecessary gatherings Keep to your household group Avoid visiting high-risk venues including clubs, restaurants, places of worship and gyms Avoid unnecessary travel outside the Northern Beaches area. At this time, we request that people from outside the area should avoid unnecessary travel to the Northern Beaches. There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. To find your nearest clinic visit https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics or contact your GP.

02.01.2022 ~ One Year On ~ 'October 26 2019' A date that will now stick with many locals for a long time. It all started with an electrical storm that brewed near the Vic...torian border the previous night. It slowly began to make it's way North and up through Central West NSW. At the fading edge of this 24-hour storm, a pair of cloud-to-ground strikes were registered near the decommissioned Gospers airstrip, deep in the cragged gullies of Wollemi National Park. The single defying lightning strike that would go on to bring a world of trauma and heartache for so many. Strike number 19,068 occurred 32 seconds past 10:55am. This single lightning strike struck a large stringy bark tree deep in the Wollemi National Park. Sparking a fire which quickly began to spread due to high temperatures and strong Westerly winds. The next 79 days would see Rylstone brigade send crews to this blaze shift after shift, day after day, night after night. In total, the Gospers Mountain fire burnt 512,626 hectares across the Lithgow, Hawkesbury, Hunter Valley, Lower Hunter, Cudgegong, Blue Mountains and Central Coast districts an area more than twice the size of the ACT. It later went on to join up with other fires that were already burning. These fires were the Little L Complex, Grose Valley, Three Mile fire and the Kerry Ridge fire which our brigade spent many weeks working on which had our small community of Rylstone on edge at multiple times due to it's close proximity. Tonight, we remember the many people who were affected by this horrible event. The hundreds of firefighters who battled this beast for 79 days straight, the pilots of the fire bombing aircraft, the volunteers who banded together around our small township of Rylstone and Kandos to support us through what was our worst and most intense fire season ever experienced. Below is a documentary that has been put together on the Gospers Mountain fire, now known as the 'Mega Blaze'. https://youtu.be/SlGmatigAy4
