25.01.2022 6000 trees planted for the Upper Murray Riverworks Program! Congrats Team for this great effort to help protect the river system. The program was funded by the Snowy Hydro Ltd and MDBA, implemented by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Water.

25.01.2022 Great estuary project behind #Ballina on Emigrant Creek to address bank erosion. This work targeted an 800m length of estuarine floodplain that was dropping a 1.5m high scarp face of fertile agricultural soil into this rich aquatic habitat at around half a metre a year. Partnering with North Coast Local Land Services, we worked with the landholder on a complex design involving hardwood timber pins supplied by from Forestry Corporation. There were a few challenges to contend w...ith, and design needed to allow for optimal mangrove growth, floods and tides, and balance cut fill without going too wide a footprint. The mangroves are beginning to move in already in month one. Can’t wait to see month 100! Thanks everyone involved in this innovative and iconic project. #environmentalengineering #Ballina Visit NSW State Forests

23.01.2022 Whilst removing tree guards from one of our project's now-established reveg sites, we came across a few of these little champs. It’s so good to see animals moving back into areas previously just pasture grass. Can you guess the species?

23.01.2022 How about some good news? In this #throwbackthursday profile, we have a look at the work over the last four decades to stabilise the Kurnell Peninsula dune system. At the start of the project (way back in 1974!) the peninsula was being eroded at up to 15 metres a year inland. Since then our specialist staff have partnered with Sutherland Shire Council and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to rehabilitate the site so future generations can continue to enjoy. Hear from staff working on the site now and forty years ago on the challenges and amazing results.

21.01.2022 It's #ThrowbackThursday so let's revisit a project we profiled last year that's improving Murray River health, building #habitat and reducing erosion. Our river systems are often depleted of timber structure, habitat and vegetation. So that's why our specialist #river rehabilitation staff reintroduced timber in this #erosion control project on Carol's Creek. The team have sourced this timber from local farms and development to get a second use and improve the river system. This work is in partnership with the NSW Department of Industry, with funding from the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.

19.01.2022 In this #throwbackthursday, we go back to 2016 when the Royal National Park's Lady Carrington Drive was damaged by a massive landslip. Our specialist team were soon on-site to consult, design and rehabilitate the damage. Congratulations to the team for working in a complex project to achieve a great result with the now Department of Planning, Industry and Environment - NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

19.01.2022 Great to profile our work on the North Wambo Creek Diversion, delivered in partnership with our client Peabody Energy. This work will support the creek diversion to function as a natural stream. Our specialist team delivered onground environmental infrastructure to support the Wambo creek diversion. This means long-term stability, healthy water flowing through the catchment, plantings for habitat for land-based and aquatic wildlife, and a stable substrate for growing a biodiverse woodland profile. Please take the time to hear some of the background on the project, its challenges and results. All delivered with safety the ultimate priority.

19.01.2022 Great to have our very own Ashley Bolton talking on the Rivers of Carbon webinar and field trip about designing farm roads and tracks to withstand erosion Register through the link below.

17.01.2022 Great to be working with John and North West Local Land Services on this North Star project. This work addresses erosion issues, protects brigalow stands and improves the soil. Look up your local Soil Con office to find out how we can support your land management. https://www.theland.com.au//6873377/improving-the-lay-of-/

14.01.2022 How's this for a workplace?! Thanks Lynden for this shot of Boat harbour, Kurnell.

13.01.2022 A cave as a site shed! Something novel for team working on the rehabilitation of the iconic Blue Lake at Jenolan Caves. Great to be working with the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust to de-silt the lake and return the site to its former pristine condition.

12.01.2022 Great to again be working on infrastructure projects with Kempsey Shire Council to support community access and enjoyment of this scenic area. This time a combination concrete precast panel and cast in-situ ramp 26m long x 8m wide. Another great partnership with Mitchell Marine Construction on the Macleay Arm, Stuarts Point.

12.01.2022 We're excited to be kicking off the first of two pilot sites in the NSW Wild Dog Fence Extension project. This week Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Minister for Ag and Western NSW Adam Marshall MP visited #Hungerford to see the site, talk to locals and officially turn the first sod.

09.01.2022 Congrats to members of our Hunter #Aboriginal Riverkeeper Team - finishing a two-week placement across the Hunter this month, with some of the action here from the Hunter Valley Flood Mitigation Scheme work funded by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (Biodiversity and Conservation Division). Great to see the HART crew out learning, supporting projects and building connections across the business.

09.01.2022 In this #throwbackthursday, we look at tornado recovery in a sensitive ecological community. In 2015 a tornado ravaged the suburb of Kurnell, tearing 12 tonnes of roof sheeting off the Sydney Desalination Plant and depositing it into a nearby Crown Lands parcel and sensitive Kurnell dune forest endangered ecological community. The clean up took a team effort, with Soil Con Staff working with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (Crown Lands), National Parks an...d Wildlife Service, Veolia and Sydney Desalination Plant to clean up the site and remove the sheet metal. This was a challenging project, with a few elements to consider carefully - international flight path, sensitive Kurnell dune forest, endangered species and access. With some out of the box thinking and drawing on experience, Soil Con staff were able to clean up the site and complete the project.

08.01.2022 Some of the action from #Collaroy Beach - our specialist staff using Bluemont rock bags to protect coastal infrastructure from storm events. This project with client Northern Beaches Council was a Soil Con first - using rock bags to protect an existing sandstone wall. The wall has damage over a 30m section and was under significant risk of failure in a large storm event. We designed and implemented the rock bag wall to stabilise the area and dissipate wave energy, protecting the site from future storm events.

07.01.2022 Here are a few photos from our work last week in opening the Narrabeen Lagoon Entrance. We excavated a narrow (approx 1.5m) but deep channel a few hours before low tide. As you can see in the photos, nature then took over. Thanks UNSW Water Research Laboratory for these images. It’s desirable for the lagoon to be open to allow a flush in and out of ocean water, which improves the cleanliness of the lagoon. Having the entrance open also reduces risk of flooding in the lagoon. Certain conditions are required for a successful entrance opening: (i) Significant rainfall to raise the level of the lagoon to optimum level (ii) Ocean tide level lower than the lagoon level allowing the water to drain and "self scour" the entry (iii) Swell conditions that do not allow sand to close the lagoon entrance straight away

07.01.2022 Great work by the team to protect the bank on a severely eroding outside bend of the river for client Hunter Local Land Services. Site is Krui River near Merriwa in the Upper Hunter Valley.

06.01.2022 Fall armyworm has recently been discovered on a property in northern NSW. Early detection is key to reducing the impact of plant pests and containing the spread, so keep an eye out and monitor crops. Find out more via the link below

06.01.2022 Great to see the completion of the #StuartPoint fiberglass reinforced plastic #fishing platform and wharf with disabled access. Thanks to our project partner Mitchell Marine Constructions for their support in delivering on this exciting new community asset for Kempsey Shire Council. Tight lines everyone!

04.01.2022 Some of the highlights from our #NAIDOC2020 celebrations late last week with the Hunter Aboriginal Riverkeeper Team, our clients the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment - BCD, Local Land Services, Tocal College and our SCS diversity committee. A very proud moment and such a great day. Our trainees led us in a welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, followed by a chance to share in the yarning circle, demonstrations and an artwork session to display in each SCS o...ffice in the Hunter. Truly a memorable and special day. Congratulations to the HART team, who are all on track to get their Cert III in Conservation Land Management and emerging Indigenous leaders in their own right. Always was, always will be #NAIDOC2020
