25.01.2022 The Auburn Unit recently had the Honour of hosting some special Awards. Two of the NSW SES State Awards for 2019 (presented a little late due to Covid) were presented to two of our own. Tanju received the 2019 NSWSES Young Volunteer of the year award. Praveena received the 2019 NSWSES Cadet of the Year award. ... Both awards were presented by Deputy Commissioner Austin at the Auburn Unit in a small Ceremony along with the presentation of several Long Service Awards to some of our members. Congratulations to both of you and everyone that received awards on the night.

25.01.2022 Last night volunteers from the Auburn Unit attended to several jobs in the Hawkesbury LGA after a pretty ruff Storm impacted the area on Monday Night. The in-fur-mation given to us for our furst job was for a property in Lower Portland, where a large branch had fallen from a tree and was sitting on the garage roof and resting on the house. With the owners trusty guard Dog keeping our vehicle secure, the team was then able to safely clear the large section of tree without ...further damage to the property with the assistance of the home owners excavator. Anythings paw-sible with the right equipment. Our next job was in Cumberland Reach, where the team were met with a wall of greenery where a road once was. With several homes cut off from the rest of the world, the team again started strategically cutting there way through. With so much debris and damage to other trees close-by, a Blacktown Team was sent in to assist as well. Together the teams made safe the area and gave residents back access to their homes.

23.01.2022 REMINDER With the potential for our volunteers to be out over the weekend now is a timely reminder of how to react around emergency vehicles. If we have our... red and blue lights flashing while stationary by the roadside, please slow down and give us space. If in a speed zone of 80 kmh or less you must slow to 40 kmh. If an emergency vehicle is behind you with their lights and sirens, indicate and pull to the left. Your help keeps us safe and allows us to respond to emergencies safely.

21.01.2022 Sparks were flying last night out in St Marys. A crew from Auburn was sent out to St Marys to assist the Penrith Unit after Friday evenings storms. Our team was tasked to multiple jobs for damaged roofs, trees that had come down and to the St Marys Band club, where a section of the metal roof had come away over the footpath and was a danger to Public Safety. ... This was also a great opportunity for two of our recently graduated Storm Damage class members to put there skills to use on real jobs, having to repair a damaged roof that had lost several tiles and a section of ridge capping in the strong winds. If you need help in Storms or Floods, call the NSW SES on 132500 or visit our website at www.ses.nsw.gov.au for more information on how to prepare your property for Storm Season.

17.01.2022 Thanks Eddy for representing Auburn recently up on the Mid North Coast. Eddy was Deployed to Grafton as the Planning Support Officer within the Incident Management Team on a 5 day deployment along with other members from City of Sydney and Ryde Units. On arrival in Grafton a few members were re-tasked to assist the Bellingen Unit. With the roads cut by Flood Waters, the only way in and out was via Helicopter. Luckily the NSWRFS had some Choppers on standby to fly these Volunteers to their destination. Huge thanks to the members that Volunteered there time so close to Christmas, as well as their Families and Employers. It's not all climbing on roofs and wielding a Chainsaw at the NSWSES, we have roles for everyone. If you could see yourself in Orange, then Volunteer at www.ses.nsw.gov.au

14.01.2022 Last night St John Ambulance Granville Combined Division joined us in a rigorous Mass Casualty Exercise. The teams were tested to their limits searching, treating and extricating multiple victims with varying injuries. These inter-agency exercises are crucial in maintaining operational readiness so when you need us, we are there and making a positive impact.

12.01.2022 A timely reminder for drivers of high vehicles to be aware of low hanging trees as this driver found out in Auburn today. The container impacted the tree branch, wedging it between the truck and trailer and dragging it along the road and underneath a parked car. SES Volunteers along with NSW Police were able to clear the offending branch and clear the road without further damage to the vehicles or property.

10.01.2022 Deer oh deer oh deer! If only Rudolph and all the other reindeer had listened to Santa’s instructions on the Christmas reconnaissance run last night. Even SANTA... knows you should never drive through floodwater! Just as well the SES were on hand to rescue them! Don’t worry everyone SANTA and all the reindeer are safely back at the North Pole drying in front of a warm fire, where Mrs CLAUS is giving them all a nice warm hot chocolate and a stern talking to about driving through floodwater!

06.01.2022 Tonight our Volunteers are out about helping the community after this afternoons wild weather. After completing our local jobs our team attended several jobs in the Silverwater and Newington areas before heading out to assist the in the Liverpool LGA.

02.01.2022 NSW Health is urging anyone who attended the Crossroads Hotel at Casula between Friday 3 July and Friday 10 July to: - immediately self-isolate until 14 days a...fter they were last there - get tested even if they have no symptoms - watch for symptoms and get retested should any respiratory symptoms occur - even if you get a negative test stay in isolation for 14 days. The warning follows confirmation of an additional four cases of COVID-19 directly linked to the hotel: - a South Western Sydney teenager who worked at the hotel on several days including 3 July - a close contact of this worker, a South Western Sydney woman in her 50s - a South Western Sydney woman in her 40s who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July - a Victorian man in his 20s who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July These four are in addition to the five previously reported cases in a woman in her 30s from South Western Sydney and a man in his 50s from the Blue Mountains who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July. This man’s three household contacts have also been confirmed as positive for COVID-19. The total number of cases linked to the hotel is nine. None of these cases appear likely to have been the source of infection at the hotel. NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said anyone who either worked or visited the Crossroads Hotel from 3-10 July should isolate themselves for 14 days after they were last at the hotel, regardless of symptoms or test results, and be tested even if they are not displaying any symptoms. If you were at the Crossroads Hotel between 3 and 10 July you may be at risk of infection and you must isolate yourself to avoid spreading COVID-19 to others. While investigations are continuing, it is vital people get tested so we can try and establish the source of infection at the hotel. I encourage people to access a number of clinics at local hospitals at Campbelltown, Fairfield and Liverpool so people are tested as quickly as possible, Dr Chant said. Additional staff have been deployed to the pop-up clinic at the Crossroads Hotel to expedite those people who wish to be tested there. Testing is available at Liverpool, Campbelltown and Fairfield Hospitals at these locations: https://www.swslhd.health.nsw.gov.au//coronavirus/clinic_f. Testing is also available through GP clinics. The pop-up clinic in the carpark of the Crossroads Hotel is open until 5pm today. As this clinic is quite busy, people are asked to be patient and attend the other clinics where possible. It’s essential that we all take the risk of transmission very seriously and take steps to protect ourselves and loved ones: - If you have even mild symptoms, a cold or cough, get tested and stay home until you’re cleared. - Keep your distance from others at all times even if you are well. - If you have been in Victoria, don’t mix with other people until two weeks has passed. People who work in high-risk settings such as health care facilities or aged care homes must not to attend work if they have symptoms and must get tested immediately. People should also not visit relatives in these settings if they have even the mildest of symptoms or have recently returned from Victoria. See more
