22.01.2022 Leaking roofs or ceilings are common calls for assistance our volunteers at SES receive during periods of heavy rain. In most cases the cause of the problem is due to building maintenance issues such as; blocked gutters, holes in roof sheeting, or broken, missing or displaced tiles. The SES can provide assistance by placing a tarp over the roof, however this does not address the problem. ... The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:50 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Springwood, Bilpin and Spencer. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Woy Woy, Penrith and Terrey Hills by 4:20 pm and Richmond, Mona Vale and Warragamba by 4:50 pm.... 16.01.2022 With the rain continuing for most of today, take some time to safely walk around your property and inspect; > Gutters and downpipes. - Are they over flowing? - Are there any leaks? > Drains around the property/yard. ... - Are they over flowing or draining freely? - Are they banking up and not clearing fast enough? > Stormwater pipe connection to the the council gutter. - Is the water flowing or is there no water coming through? Gutters, downpipes, drains, retention basins and stormwater lines play an important role in redirecting the water away from your property. By ensuring that gutters are clear and drains and pipes are free of blockages you can avoid water leaks and/or pooling and potential damage to your property.

However, the redevelopment of severe thunderstorms remain possible. The situation is being closely monitored and further detailed warnings will be issued as necessary. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: ... * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your electricity bill. The next warning is due to be issued by 6:05 pm.

13.01.2022 Our wonderful Bankstown volunteers are on location on the south coast of NSW today as part of a strike team to help residents and local units after last weeks storm devastation. The team even providing some traffic control for a local vehicle accident. Bankstown unit volunteers are joined by other Sydney units including Liverpool, Campbelltown, The Hills, Menai, North Sydney and Ryde. Thank you to all our SES volunteers for giving up your time to help our communities on the south coast.

Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Orange, Bathurst, Katoomba, Dubbo and Parkes....
