17.01.2022 REMINDER RE NSW SES PROCEDURES | COVID-19 With the ongoing COVID-19 situation the NSW SES will continue to follow COVID-19 call taking and response procedures so our volunteers can stay safe whilst helping communities during storms and floods. In taking your call for emergency assistance we will ask if anyone at the property has flu-like symptoms or has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus. NSW SES will still respond to your request if you say yes to any or both of thes...e questions. They will just use this information to use risk mitigation strategies so they can stay safe. While our NSW SES Response Team is traveling to your property, they may contact you via mobile phone seeking pictures or videos of the damage to your home or business. NSW SES volunteers will maintain appropriate physical distancing whilst at your property and may need to communicate with you via mobile phone in some circumstances. We may also provide self- help advice so you can do temporary repairs to your own home or business. We will only do this if appropriate and safe to do so, given the circumstances and nature of the damage and actions required to make your property safe. We appreciate your support whilst we implement these important measures so we can continue to provide emergency services to the community while protecting the safety of our volunteers. For emergency assistance in storms and floods call NSW SES on 132 500.

14.01.2022 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - see details below

10.01.2022 Communities in the Hunter and Inner North of the State are asked to be aware and prepared. A slow-moving low-pressure trough is expected to linger over north-e...ast NSW during Monday afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall is likely with this slow-moving weather system which may lead to FLASH FLOODING and RIVERINE FLOODING. Isolated thunderstorms are possible across the warning area and very heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding. NSW SES reminds people to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater as this is the main cause of death during floods. To read the full media release: https://bit.ly/3reoM1h You can find regular updates on the NSW SES website www.ses.nsw.gov.au And for all weather updates visit the Bureau of Meteorology https://bit.ly/3nEyCHo

07.01.2022 SCHOOLS OUT The #holidays are a joyful time of year and we want everyone to be safe. Remind the little ones and the big ones about the dangers around play...ing outside during flood and storms, and to steer clear of flash flooding, particularly around storm drains, fast-moving rivers and creeks. #Floodwater is filled with debris, bacteria and much more that could cause illness and injury. Roads and surfaces could wash away, and may not be seen from the surface. Know your risk http://bit.ly/2kNv2zC If you knew what was in it, you wouldn’t go in it! Stay safe. #stormdrains #communitynotice #summersafety

06.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL For people in North West Slopes and Plains and parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts. Issued at 11:00 am Monday, 21 December 2020.... WIDESPREAD RAIN DEVELOPING ACROSS NORTHERN NSW DURING MONDAY A slow moving trough over northern New South Wales will interact with increasing tropical humidity to bring widespread rain to northern parts of the state during Monday. A transient low pressure system may develop within this trough on Tuesday, but the system will weaken and move away to the east by Tuesday evening. HEAVY RAINFALL, which may lead to FLASH FLOODING and RIVERINE FLOODING, is expected to develop across the Northwest Slopes and Plains and parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains and Upper Western forecast districts from Monday morning. Rainfall will increase and spread east, reaching the Hunter and parts of the Northern Tablelands and Mid North Coast, during Monday afternoon and evening. Conditions are currently forecast to ease during Tuesday morning. Embedded thunderstorms may locally enhance rainfall rates, leading to intense rainfall and potentially life threatening flash flooding. Further river rises are likely, and a Flood Watch is current for several river catchments. For more information see www.bom.gov.au/nsw/warnings. Locations which may be affected include Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Scone, Coonabarabran Armidale and Maitland. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
