25.01.2022 4 of our very dedicated local volunteers made the trip out to Brewarrina in Western NSW to assist with current flooding. While there, they dropped into Brewarrina Central School to give the kids a first hand look at the boats and equipment used to assist during floods and storms, as well as teach them all about flood awareness. Our volunteers said it was an absolute pleasure to meet such a passionate and friendly group of children.
25.01.2022 Sandbag Collection Point Davistown and surrounding areas experienced flooding with significant high tides last night, this is expected to occur again tonight. People in flood affected areas or low lying surrounding areas should prepare for potential flooding, even if you have not experienced flooding in the past.... We recommend you prepare your home for possible inundation of water and potential loss of power. Gosford SES unit volunteers have prepared sandbags and created sandbag collection points at the following locations; Davistown Memorial Park - from 3:00PM Davistown Rd DAVISTOWN GOSFORD SES Pateman Ave (left at the roundabout in Pateman Ave and through carpark) ERINA Consider your personal situation, and if you have medical or other concerns that could affect your ability to evacuate if the need arises, consider staying with friends or family. Driving through flooded roads is dangerous and puts the community at risk. An additional issue with driving on flooded roads is the waves created causing damage to peoples homes. Do not drive through flooded roads! If you require SES assistance call 132 500, if the situation is life threatening call Triple Zero (000) Stay Safe!!

Jeff also assisted other NSW SES Units during severe weather events both statewide and interstate. He will be greatly missed at Gosford Unit. We send our deepest condolences to Jeff’s family and others that knew him.

02.01.2022 In the lead up to World Tsunami Awareness Day, our volunteers thought they would share some facts and tips with you surrounding tsunamis. The NSW SES is the combat agency for storms, floods and tsunamis. Due to their frequency, storms and floods make up a large part of our volunteer's training and assistance to the public. However, tsunamis do pose a threat to the NSW coastline and our volunteers are ready to respond if one occurs. The facts: - Australia has been affected by ...50 tsunamis in the past 200 years. - Generally, there are two tsunami risks that may impact Australia, marine threat and land inundation threat. - Marine Threat from tsunamis is most likely and common, affecting tides, rips and currents, as a result of this threat the NSW SES Gosford Unit is working closely with Central Coast's Surf Living Saving Clubs this month to boost awareness. - Land inundation tsunamis threats are less likely but far more serious, potentially reaching the many suburbs on the Central Coast coastline. - In the case of a land inundation tsunami the best course of action is to evacuate to higher and/or further inland areas. Below is a list of resources for further reading including how to best prepare your family and home and plan for tsunami threats. A tsunami map by NSW SES: https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/resource/tsunami-evacuation-map/ NSW SES Tsunami information and advice: https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/disaster-tabs-header/tsunami/ A Guide to Tsunamis by the Australian Insitute for Disaster Resilience: https://knowledge.aidr.org.au//the-ultimate-guide-tsunami/ Stay safe Coasties and thank you for your continuous support.
