21.01.2022 Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES Issued at 3:30 pm Friday, 13 November 2020. For people in parts of Maitland/Cessnock, Greater Newcastle, Sydney and Greater Wollongong areas. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING, MAY PRODUCE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS... The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Campbelltown, Maitland, Kurri Kurri and Beresfield. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Newcastle City, Raymond Terrace, Belmont and Medowie by 3:55 pm and Anna Bay, Lemon Tree Passage, Mallabula and Bobs Farm by 4:25 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. 81km/hr gust observed south of Singleton at 2:23pm.. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in parts of South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Districts. VIGOROUS ALPINE WINDS TODAY... A strong cold front will move across western and southern New South Wales during Tuesday, generating vigorous west to northwesterly winds. Winds are expected to ease as the front moves further north early on Wednesday morning. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible about the Alpine areas above 1200 metres of the Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory districts from late Tuesday morning. For areas above 1900 metres, winds may average 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 120 km/h. Winds are expected to ease by early Wednesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Perisher Valley, Charlotte Pass, Thredbo, Cabramurra, Selwyn, Mount Ginini and Adaminaby. 20.01.2022 FLOODING NO LONGER OCCURRING AT BEGA The Bega River at Bega North has fallen below the minor flood level. No further flooding is expected in the Bega River. Flood water may have impacted low lying areas, roads and causeways. Some rural roads may be closed. Motorists should avoid driving through flood waters, which may have washed away road surfaces and could be deeper or faster-flowing than they look. Never walk, drive or ride through floodwaters. If it’s flooded, forget it. Check on your neighbours.

Issued at 4:36 am Monday, 16 November 2020.... An approaching trough and cold front are increasing northwesterly winds. Conditions are expected to east during Monday as the system weakens and moves further north. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 80 to 100 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 120 km/h are likely for Alpine areas above 1900 metres. For areas below 1900 metres over parts of the Snowy Mountains and ACT, winds may average 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h on Monday morning. The greatest risk of damaging winds is along ridges. Winds are expected to ease on Monday afternoon. Locations which may be affected include Perisher Valley, Thredbo, Cabramurra, Braidwood, Cooma, Bombala, Bredbo, Adaminaby and Nimmitabel. Thredbo top station has so far recorded mean winds of 76km/h at 3am and a wind gust of 106km/h at 3:39am. Locations which may be affected include Batemans Bay, Orange, Canberra, Goulburn and Dubbo. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Riverina and Lower Western districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. 07.01.2022 MINOR Flood Bulletin 5 has been released. The Bega River at Bega North peaked Wednesday morning, with minor flooding. The river level is now falling. Rainfall has eased throughout the Bega River catchment. The Bega River at Bega North is expected to fall below the minor flood level (4.60 metres) Wednesday evening.
