24.01.2022 Hi Inner West, BOM has issued a SEVERE weather warning for damaging winds and large hail for parts of NSW including the Sydney Metro area. There are some really easy ways in which you can help prepare and protect your property (and help NSW volunteers as well).... Simple things like; moving your vehicle undercover or into secured parking, trimming any over-hanging branches and tying down or removing any lose items from backyards and balconies. If you see any fallen branches or trees, please do not approach as these may have brought down power-lines with them. If you have pets, best to bring them inside as well. If you need SES assistance, please call 132 500. In a life threatening situation, please call 000.
23.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has produced a great video about floods, the different types of floods and the hazards and risks that they pose. Flash and riverine flooding are some of the most common types of flooding NSW SES - Marrickville Unit volunteers respond to in the Inner West. Much of it is generally due to vehicles entering flooded roads and becoming stranded and specially trained volunteers having to rescue the driver and passengers. We encourage people living in the Inner West to explore alternative routes to and from home if streets they normally use are subject to flooding during heavy rain and high tides.
23.01.2022 The NSW SES acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands where we work and live. We celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures, and recognise their continuing connections to lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians (individuals, families, communities and organisations, and as a nation. We strive towards a more just, equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another.

18.01.2022 On May 26, we commemorate National Sorry Day, acknowledging the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, communities and culture between 1910 -1970. Sorry Day is an opportunity to learn about and reflect on the experiences of the Stolen Generations. Acknowledging the wrongs of the past, and the continued grief and trauma experienced by many Aboriginal families and communities, is an important step towards reconciliation. We encourage everyone to take Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week and as an opportunity to grow our understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and peoples.

18.01.2022 Hi Inner West, BOM has issued a SEVERE thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and large hail and heavy rain for parts of NSW including the Sydney Metro area. 18.01.2022 If you let your roof gutters turn into a garden then be prepared to be greeted by an unexpected view of thunderstorms in the middle of the night. One of the most common requests for assistance SES volunteers receive during thunderstorms is of leaky / collapsed ceilings. This is often caused by blocked gutters where the water pools in the roof instead of draining away properly. Not only can this damage ceilings (which can be costly and distressing for residents), the water can also pool in dangerous places like down lights making them an electrical / fire hazard for residents and our volunteers. If its safe to do so, we encourage people to inspect their roofs and gutters and clean them as often as possible. Handy hint; knock up and down the down pipe to hear if any part of it is blocked by debris.

Please do not drive through or enter any flooded areas or streets and stay clear of any broken branches or trees as these may have brought down power-lines. We also encourage pet owners to keep their pets indoors. If you need assistance, please call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life threatening situation, please call 000.
13.01.2022 Really important tips to prepare your home for bush fire season. Some of the tips such as trimming overhanging branches and cleaning gutters will also help prepare your homes against thunderstorms and heavy rain as well.
