25.01.2022 #BREAKING: ACT Government authorities have just advised the following: "We are asking all consumers to be mindful of any unnecessary electricity usage. Things you can do to help include": > making sure pool pumps are off... > setting air conditioners to 24 or 25 degrees > not using washing machines, dishwashers or dryers > turning off appliances and lights in rooms that are not being used The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) AEMO is also working with large load electricity customers to reduce their electricity consumption where possible. New South Wales is facing a major electricity supply crisis due to bushfires. The state government has confirmed fire has taken out two electricity substations in the Snowy Mountains region. The destruction has resulted in supply issues in the state.

24.01.2022 For IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING SYDNEY CBD and surrounding suburbs. HEAVY RAIN between 100-150mm which will likely cause FLASH FLOODING and RIVERINE FLOODING, is forecast for parts of the SYDNEY METRO area SATURDAY 08FEB through SUNDAY 09FEB. FLASH FLOODING can happen without warning, is fast moving and extremely dangerous. Local areas that may be impacted by this include the suburbs around ALEXANDRIA, ERSKINEVILLE, ULTIMO, THE ROCKS and PYRMONT. ... DAMAGING WIND GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h, are possible along the coastal fringe later today and Sunday. The NSW State Emergency Service advises: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines. * Dont drive, ride, walk or play in floodwater. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. * Keep children and pets indoors during storms. 24.01.2022 Its been a rather big day for our team of volunteers who have been out in the LGA doing storm operations. All varying from trees down to leaking roofs. Well done team. 23.01.2022 Manly Dam is temporarily closed for swimming due to poor water quality resulting from the recent heavy rains. Stormwater entering the dam has increased the wat...ers bacterial levels and swimming is not recommended. We are monitoring the water quality in consultation with Sydney Water with further testing planned for today. It will remain closed to swimmers until water quality readings improve. All trails and picnic areas remain open.

22.01.2022 URGENT MESSAGE An intense low-pressure system is forecast to affect the coast between Port Stephens and Sydney overnight tonight. Damaging winds and localised heavy rainfall totals of 100-300mm are currently being predicted. Waterspouts are also a possibility with this type of system. High Spring tides are also affecting the coastline around 10:18pm and 10:35am. Such intense rainfall is likely to lead to flash flooding. The many areas prone to flooding including b...ut not limited to known hotspots such as Newcastle, Wallsend, Gosford, Warringah and Narrabeen. If you know people in these areas whose houses have been affected by flash flooding in the past, please contact them and strongly suggest that they may want to stay somewhere else tonight. You can prepare now for the forecast rain and wind by: 1. Putting away or tying down items around your home that could blow away and cause damage 2. Ensuring your gutters are free from leaves and downpipes are able to cope with heavy rainfall... 3. Putting your car undercover so it is not damaged by falling branches Doing these three simple things before the storm comes could save you hundreds of dollars in damage after it has passed.

17.01.2022 Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning for LARGE HAILSTONES, HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS For people in parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Gosford/Wyong and Sydney areas.... Issued at 10:17 pm Tuesday, 18 February 2020. Weather Situation: The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 10:15 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Richmond and Penrith. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Horsley Park, Liverpool and Riverstone by 10:30 pm and Hornsby, Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park by 10:45 pm. Large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds are likely. 49 knot wind gust recorded Nowra Airport at 8:40pm 49.6mm of rain in 60min at Nowra Airport to 9:00pm 27.4mm of rain in 30min at Orange (Agricultural institute) to 8:45pm Reports of large hail near Mittagong and Wollongong. 11.01.2022 The NSW SES is monitoring the ever changing situation in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety and well-being of our members, and the wider community is our highest priority. The NSW SES is implementing a number of measures to ensure the continuity of our operations and support our volunteers.... Following advice from NSW Health, participation in non-essential community events, large meetings and ceremonies will be suspended. Volunteer training will be scaled back, we will continue to maintain operational readiness. The NSW SES will continue to support communities become better prepared for severe weather events, and respond to communities in need over the coming months. When calling for emergency help during floods and storms, the NSW SES may ask you for additional information, including whether you are currently in isolation or have cold / flu symptoms so our volunteers can take additional safety precautions. Message from Emergency Services Minister Over the next few days, we expect this weather event to turn into an East Coast Low with significant SES resources sent to ensure the safety of our communities. ... 700 SES members have been deployed and they have already completed 1,170 requests for help. PLEASE BE CAREFUL driving in these wet conditions, many local roads have water running across the road surfaces or pooling onthe road side and a number of pot holes forming. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOOD WATERS
