23.01.2022 It’s storm season and you come across floodwater, what do you do? If you said you would turn around and find another route, give yourself a pat on the back! Floodwaters are dangerous never drive, walk or ride through floodwaters.... To learn more about your risks and to #GetReady this #StormSeason, visit http://bit.ly/2kNv2zC

21.01.2022 DRIVER ALERT DURING CURRENT FLOODING At the NSW SES we continue to remind the community of the dangers of driving through floodwaters. As this driver near M...oree discovered this week, you never know what the road conditions are like under even the smallest amount of water that is across a road. With floodwaters making their way down the Barwon River catchment and into the Darling River in the next month - roads right across North West NSW will be affected by floodwaters. Please drive to the road conditions Don't ever drive across flooded roads, creeks and causeways Don't risk your life by making bad decisions behind the wheel Don't risk our volunteer's lives when they have to come and rescue you Remember most insurance companies won't cover your car if you deliberately get stuck in floodwater If it's flooded - forget it! If you need the assistance of the NSW SES during this flooding, call 132 500. If it is a life-threatening emergency, call 000. 16.01.2022 Severe storms are currently lashing areas of the New England. NSW SES crews across the region are being mobilised now to respond to the large number of requests for assistance being received. Be patient - if you have rung the NSW SES for support, a crew will be on their way, but please appreciate the time this might take in these storm circumstances.... If you need assistance please call the NSW SES on 132 500. During these storm conditions, we also advise residents: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

11.01.2022 The NSW SES Deepwater Unit will be conducting a Come and Try Open Day on Saturday November 21 between 10am - 2pm. The unit is hoping to attract members to support the local community during floods, storms, road crash rescue and community first response through NSW Ambulance. It will be an open day style event, with a free BBQ and volunteers will be showing off rescue and first response techniques used during emergencies. ... This will allow people interested in taking part to use real rescue tools, cutting up a car under instruction and guidance of a qualified rescue operator. Ambulance Service Paramedics will also be onsite, running through medical scenarios with hands on experience for the interested parties. There will be tours of the unit and vehicle equipment as well. For more information, please contact Mitch Parker from the NSW SES on 0458 012 256.

07.01.2022 BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER - JOIN THE NSW SES Right across Northern NSW during the past six weeks, NSW SES volunteers from across the state have come together to assist communities affected by flood water. It is yet another great example of the community helping each other through crisis.... Our volunteers have undertaken so many vital roles in assisting flood affected communities and they have done an amazing job at it. What have our members been up to: Collecting flood data and images of the water impacting communities to help prepare for future events. Conducting patrols of flood affected areas to ensure the communities which are affected remain safe. Undertaking remote restocking of isolated communities and properties with food, water and medical supplies. Patrolling river systems and undertaking flood rescues when community members get stuck in flood water. Hosting community barbeques and other engagement events to inform and connect with local communities. There are so many options to assist your community by being a member of the NSW SES- and you'll get plenty of training and new skills while you are at it! 03.01.2022 We love the hard work and dedication of our NSW SES volunteers. Today, meet Kirsten and Leah from the NSW SES Wollongong City Unit. The pair are part of a crew... who have been stationed in Brewarrina to assist the local community ahead of tomorrow's flood peak on the Barwon River. They helped organise yesterday's community BBQ in town and have also been working in the community to gather flood intelligence, assist with preparations at the local SES Unit headquarters and a stack of other tasks. If you need the assistance of the NSW SES, please call 132 500. 01.01.2022 This ANZAC Day we recognise and appreciate the actions of all our servicemen and women. #NSWSES developed out of Civil Defence, with many of our founding members across the service being ex-military. We would like to remind all Australians to not only reflect on the sacrifices made, but to offer support to all past and present defence personnel who may need it. ... #LestWeForget #volunteers #ANZACDay
