23.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and parts of South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and Riverina Forecast Districts. Issued at 5:02 am Friday, 1 May 2020.... BLUSTERY WESTERLY WINDS FOR SOUTHERN NSW ON FRIDAY Vigorous westerly winds have developed over parts of southeastern New South Wales in the wake of a cold front that southeastern Australia during Thursday. Cold and blustery westerly winds are forecast for much of the state on Friday and Saturday as a low near Tasmania gradually moves east. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 120 km/h are possible for Alpine areas above 1900 metres. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h, may then extend to include parts of the Snowy Mountains, ACT, Southern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Illawarra and South Coast districts on Friday morning. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h are possible with gusty showers across the Southwestern Slopes, Riverina and southern parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains during Friday. BLIZZARDS are likely for Alpine areas above 1800 metres from later Thursday evening, extending to Alpine areas above 1500 metres early on Friday morning. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. Locations which may be affected include Thredbo, Nowra, Canberra, Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Griffith and Hay. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. 12.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Riverina and parts of Lower Western and Upper Western Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:13 pm Wednesday, 29 April 2020.... GUSTY THUNDERSTORMS FOR INLAND NSW A line of thunderstorms is being generated across inland New South Wales as a cold front crosses the region. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Albury, Deniliquin, Griffith, Hay, Tibooburra and Menindee. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions.
