20.01.2022 For today’s we flashback to the another great from the 1970’s era. , ’ , ... , . Don’t Retreat had a super race career. He won 55 races (with 19 seconds and 13 thirds as well) from 112 starts and won $340,317. He won the NSW Sapling Stakes as a two-year-old. At three, he won the Queensland Derby and Simpson Sprint. Some of his most memorable open class wins were a WA Pacing Cup, Winfield Cup at Moonee Valley, Queensland Pacing Championship, an Italian Cup at Moonee Valley and the 1976 and 1977 Australia Day Cups at Harold Park. He finished third to Carclew and Pure Steel in the 1976 Inter Dominion Final at Globe Derby Park. He was Australia’s Horse of the Year in 1976 and became the first horse to win more than $100,000 in a season. Retired to stud in 1978, he had moderate success, siring 40 individual winners from 75 starters. He passed away in November 1987 after suffering from cancer in his stifle when at stud in Queensland. A great moment in our harness racing’s rich history. #HarnessRacing #Trots #History #HaroldPark

02.01.2022 (later renamed NSW Harness Racing Club and now called Club Menangle Tra...ckside) On this day, 19 November, back in 1902 racing commenced at Harold Park (then referred to as Forest Lodge). A five race programme was conducted and ‘King Harold’, driven by Tom Price, won the first race. He won by 50 yards and went a time of 2:43 for the mile. A lot happened in harness racing in the 118 years since that opening day. Our old photo shows the field getting ready for Race three on that programme.
