11.01.2022 The Department continues to show utmost contempt for the profession, disregard for student learning and an abrogation of their duty to provide teachers and students a safe workplace. Extending the consultation date by two weeks over the school vacation period is unacceptable. Again, we call on the Minister to intervene to instruct the Department to suspend the consultation period and ensure a thorough examination of the student discipline policy be held in term 4.
10.01.2022 Federation has criticised a new casual teacher supplementation program initiated by the Department of Education, labelling it as woefully inadequate.

04.01.2022 Evidence to the Gallop inquiry today that investing in education pays off, not only for students but also through job growth and increased economic activity. Increasing that investment right now would be of huge assistance in the recovery from the COVID crisis.
03.01.2022 The first two weeks of the independent Gallop inquiry have now concluded. Two issues emerging from the hearings are lack of time for teachers to focus on teaching and learning and inadequate wages. A tool developed by Unions NSW calculated that the Berijiklian government’s proposed wage freeze would mean a loss of $144 213 for a teacher at the top of the scale over the life of their career. Many experts have presented evidence presenting the case for increased remuneration fo...r the profession. Academics and others have spoken about the impact data collection, student complexity and workload has had on teachers and principals. The impact of COVID-19 and teachers’ ability to adapt to new methods of learning has been highlighted. Throughout the next round of hearings the expert panel will hear evidence directly from teachers. These hearings will commence in week 3 of term 4.

01.01.2022 Federation shares the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring there is an adequate supply of graduate teachers to fill positions in NSW public schools, but under no circumstances should the quality of graduate teachers be compromised.
