25.01.2022 Introducing NWC member NRWC (Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers) and some important info about our freshwater long-neck turtles

24.01.2022 Be plastic waste aware. As we move into the warmer months, for those living on the coast, a walk on the beach, bay or river can give you an insight into our increasing addiction to plastic. From bottles, cans, bags, lids, straws, balloons and strings, to discarded fishing gear, these are all a common sight and are a real, increasing threat to our wildlife. This spring, please be aware of how you dispose your plastic waste. By putting it in a council bin or taking it home ...and using your recycling bin, you will be helping our wildlife and their habitat. You will also be helping to keep our natural environments healthy and beautiful! Some simple things you can help our environment further include: . Join in on a local area clean-up day, like Take3 for the Sea or Clean Up Australia Day . Be a responsible fisher person, use biodegradable gear and take your discarded line and rubbish with you . Use council bins provided when enjoying your local or holiday area take your rubbish home, leave only footprints! Every little bit helps our environment. And who knows, by helping to clean up your local area, you could even be saving an innocent life!

23.01.2022 Please put WATER out FOR WILDLIFE - both on the ground - and above the ground if possible and always in a shady spot - don’t make it too deep or put in a stick or rocks so little people can get out if they climb in - this could literally save a little life!!! If you see or find an animal distressed, injured or orphaned please call your local wildlife group ASAP

04.01.2022 Spring is in the air, please take care! It is that time of year when we see babies everywhere Wildlife may venture far and wide in search of food and water during the breading and baby caring season. Others will be very protective of their young even out in the open just like this Masked Lapwing mum and chick. ... Please be aware and take extra care! Following the drought and bushfire season earlier this year, our wildlife needs all the support it can get to help it rebound from the hardships it faced. Here are a few easy things you can do to support our native wildlife this Spring: . Keeping dogs and cats inside at night. . Keeping your dog on a lead when passing breeding or nesting sites. . Do not take dogs into National Parks, fines apply . If you find injured or orphaned wildlife, call your local wildlife rescue group for advice and help! . Join your local wildlife rescue care group or make a donation to help volunteer carers continue their vital work
