18.01.2022 Dear Tax Law Committee, This is just a friendly reminder that the next Tax Law Committee meeting will be held next Thursday 17 October 2019 at 6:00pm, room 303 in the Law Society Building, Phillip St, Sydney. We are pleased to announce a special guest speaker, David Lewis, Barrister at Sixth Floor Wentworth Chambers, who will be speaking on recent developments in fraud and evasion.... David was called to the Bar in 2018, having formerly been the Tipstaff to the Honourable Justice White (then of the Equity Division of the Supreme Court of New South Wales) and a solicitor at Allens, where he practised extensively in both litigation and advisory matters, including income tax, GST, fringe benefits tax, stamp duty and payroll. David holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours I) and a Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) (Honours I, University Medal) from the University of Sydney. We look forward to seeing everyone next Thursday!

07.01.2022 Hi everyone, Were proud to extend a warm welcome to our March meeting, this Thursday the 21st, at 6pm at the lawsociety building. Come on down and join us for wine and nibbles, catchup on whats going on in tax today, and share a chuckle with fellow tax colleagues.... We also extend a sincere apology to members who are unable to make it, but tried to tune in by phone last meeting. We were plagued by technical issues last meeting, but were in contact with tech support who will try and get the system functional for this meeting.

We will also be hosting a guest speaker, Danielle Farrell, who will be providing a 101 overview on section 353 Notices and the Commissioner of Taxations information-gathering powers. Danielle is a solicitor in the Tax Disputes practice at Herbert Smith Freehills and received a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 2015 and a Juris Doctor in 2018, both from the Australian National University. Ravi is fascinated by the laws intersection with financial crime, cyberspace and distributed ledger technologies.
