25.01.2022 Over the coming weeks, the OCC will be conducting consultations with students around the Territory, discussing how COVID-19 may have impacted Children's Rights. Thank you to Year 7 students at Sanderson Middle School who took part in the first of these consultations today! The information we collect will help to shape the way the NT supports young people through this pandemic.



25.01.2022 Congratulations to Bradshaw Primary School in Alice Springs, for achieving over 90% attendance at the end of last year! We look forward to seeing what you and your students can achieve in 2021!

25.01.2022 We love this certificate from KFLEC (Katherine Flexible Learning and Engagement Centre) for conducting recent consultations with their students. However, it should be us thanking them for providing brilliant learning opportunities to the young people of Katherine and the NT!

24.01.2022 Thursday mornings are a little different at Yirara College, Alice Springs! Students take charge of the classes, teaching the teachers and staff the language, culture and geography of the area they are from. We were lucky enough to sit in on the Garrwa class, and saw first-hand just how excited and empowered the students were to show us their language and way of life around the Robinson River area.... 20.01.2022 The OCC has begun our new round of consultations, hearing from NT young people on a range of things including issues in their community, connection with school and education, and their future goals. Thank you to Ngukurr School CEC, Jilkminggan School, and Mataranka School helping to elevate children's voices in the work that we do, including to shape what our priorities should be.

20.01.2022 As we welcome in the new year, we thank all of the organisations, services, families, individuals, and most of all children who have worked with us over the past year. The OCC looks forward to continuing to work towards a bright future for all children and young people of the Northern Territory in 2021. Happy New Year!

20.01.2022 Last week the OCC visited the Ltyentye Apurte Community, to meet with MacYouth - Macdonnell Regional Council Youth Services and talk about some of the exciting programs they are running in Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa). With a great youth space, pool programs, education pathways, and even a salon, it was great to learn about the ways the Ltyente Apurte community are improving health and social outcomes for their young people.

Thank you to the students of Sadadeen Primary School, Yirara College and Centralian Middle School for taking part in our consultations regarding child-friendly complaints processes and the impact of COVID-19. The information collected will help us to continue to promote children's rights and their well-being in the Territory.

This means a more sustainable future, a more equal society and here in Australia, empowering First Nations children to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed. Today, and every day, we celebrate children's rights and building a better world for children!

13.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Family violence has a severe impact on all children who have been exposed to it. It continues to be a significant barrier to the fulfillment of children's rights. Together as a community, we must say NO to violence against women.

The theme for this year is Always Was, Always Will Be: recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. 08.01.2022 Great to be back in Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa)! Thanks to the students of Ltyentye Apurte Catholic School for taking part in our consultations on the impact of COVID-19 on their community, and the development of child-friendly complaints materials. Thanks also to MacYouth - Macdonnell Regional Council Youth Services for showing us the great programs they had on that day and assisting us to put on a barbecue for children and families.

03.01.2022 Scotland have just announced that they will be incorporating the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into law. This means that children's rights will be at the heart of decisions when any new laws or policies are developed. This is great news for Scottish children, and we would love to see similar national legislation implemented in Australia.

02.01.2022 Up to 100 meals for 75 days straight The Gap Youth and Community Centre Aboriginal Corporation provides such an important service to our young people in Alice Springs - giving them a safe and fun place to meet, play and learn. Through COVID they provided even more support to their community - cooking and delivering thousands of meals to those who were doing it tough! ... Services like The Gap assist families to grow their children up healthy and strong.

The OCC spent National Child Protection Week in Alice Springs, speaking with young people, community, organisations and services about how we can continue putting children first.
