I cannot say "We cannot win damned if you do and damned if you don't" but I do think our bodies were not meant for long periods of standing or sitting (other than cross legged on the floor). Something to do with the distance from the heart to the toes when standing and also blood cut off in the pelvis from sitting. Worth a read...
