18.01.2022 In May 2015 the NTEU, together with 17 other Australian/Victorian unions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that recognised the Federal Republic of West Papu...a; supported the United Liberation Movement for West Papua’s application to join the Melanesian Spearhead Group (which was subsequently successful); and committed to promoting the right of West Papua to self-determination. Indonesia’s colonisation of West Papua has meant slow-motion genocide, resulting in 500,000 missing Melanesian West Papuans. The Australian Government knew in 1969 that the ‘Act of Free Choice’ was a fraudulent sham vote carried out at gunpoint, but supported the Indonesian government’s illegitimate claim to sovereignty over West Papua anyway and today continues to remain silent about and complicit in the genocide of our West Papuan neighbours. It is high time for our government to stop actively supporting Indonesia’s military and their horrific ongoing violations of the human rights of Indigenous West Papuans, and instead support the Papuans’ plea for an internationally supervised referendum on independence. Australia must cease allowing the occupying Indonesian military and police to act with impunity in West Papua and speak up to right the wrongs and betrayals of the past. As the NTEU pledged in 2015, we must support the Indigenous peoples of West Papua's human right to self-determination by urging the Australian Government to support Vanuatu’s motion at the UN General Assembly in New York in September this year, to re-list West Papua on the United Nations Decolonisation Committee Agenda. Please sign the petition at www.DecolonizeWestPapua.com

05.01.2022 You don’t need to be working in a Calombaris restaurant to have your wages stolen... Members working as casual educators at Academy of Information Technology have now been told by their bosses that they ‘may have’ ‘inadvertently’ and ‘unintentionally’ misinterpreted the Award and under-paid them! Around 40 workers are affected. The ones we have analysed so far being owed between $10,000 and $185,000 each. ... NTEU will make sure that these workers are now correctly back-paid all of their entitlements including superannuation. This is what happens when you join your union! #wagetheft #joinyourunion #nteu
