24.01.2022 A ray of light during a dark time, congrats to our colleagues at Kangan and Chisholm TAFEs that have had their EB passed through FWA yesterday. Hopefully Advance TAFE wont be far off too!
23.01.2022 The age of social media, public and private time is blurred. There has been some media lately around When do an employees private actions cross the line? Article in the Sydney Morning Herald. (http://www.smh.com.au//when-do-an-employees-private-action) A questionable tweet, post or comment while sitting on your couch at night can cost your job or at the very least land you in disciplinary action with your employer. Be warned, it does not even have to be about your emp...loyer to raise an alarm with them. Prospective employers are also Facebook stalking job candidates. What does your online presence say about you? My advice, keep the social side of social media as such. Fill your wall with positive energy, sharing happy times, moments we are proud of and things we look forward too. A negative mind will never give you a positive life. (but it will annoy enough people to make it worth it!) lol
23.01.2022 Support Streets workers who are at risk of having their enterprise agreement voided. Negotiations are made In good faith with all parties agreeing to its clauses. How is it fair that big business can decide they want to end it and cut wages by up to 46%. Send a message to Streets.

17.01.2022 Momentum is building at Federation Trainings NTEU Branch, with NINE new members in 2 months. Not a member yet? Why not? I think of my union membership as insurance for my employment T&Cs. We insure our cars, our homes and their contents without a second thought. But many of us put little importance our employment T&Cs.... Join online today - https://www.nteu.org.au/join/join/index Strength is in numbers!
15.01.2022 Please visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/saveourtafe/. SAVE OUR TAFE is a community action group to fight the funding cuts implemented in the recent May 1 state budget, which will threaten the long term welfare and viability of the whole Gippsland region. This groups primarily located in Latrobe Valley, but the fight to Save our TAFE is a state wide topic.
14.01.2022 East at your desk? Youre working 16 days a year for free. Survey of 1000 UK workers found that stress levels led to more than two-thirds of respondents feeling guilty for taking more than half-an-hour lunch break - despite being entitled to a full hour.
13.01.2022 Invest in protecting your employment conditions. You insure your home, cars even your life, but many of us dont think its important enough to protect our job. Join the NTEU to access a support and advice network and give you and the NTEU a stronger voice. You dont try to insure your house once its burnt down, dont do the same for your job.

12.01.2022 Post I logged to The Project TV show after poking fun at TAFE students and staff rallying in Melbourne on Thursday nights show: .......So on a topic that effect s thousand peoples future, you choose to report on a musical rap and have a good laugh! You are all such great reporters and really have your finger on the pulse of what are the news stories dont you!! TAFE cuts dont need your ridicule; the people fighting for basic educational rights and needs of our students ne...ed your support, understanding and celebrity status behind the cause, not belittling and public humiliation. Your jokes and poking fun at the people at the center of this fight with the Victorian government only shows that you really are ignorant to the real issues and how these cuts will have a butterfly effect on the education opportunities of students, employment of our staff and growth of our local communities. Funding removed from regional TAFEs will mean that potential students with special needs wont be able to get it. This funding pays for essential support services for our student to ensure that their TAFE experience is successful and fulfilling library services, counseling, support workers and study assist staff. They will be lost in the ether, if they cant cope with mainstream study options there will be no support available to them they will fail (if they even are able to give it a go in the first place), drop out and become a statistic of society. The education system is being driven by a city centric government, thinking only about what happens in the cities and not what all of Victoria needs. We are not a one size fits all educational system. Yes the current Victorian government inherited the problem of some private providers being unethical in obtaining funding for training and cause the budget blow out, but Ted needs to man up and do something about it and stop playing the blame game. Plug the holes and make this a system to be proud of taking money off Public TAFE provider will not solve anything, dodgy private providers will just change direction. Charlie, Carrie & The Project team, use your power for good, not cheap laughs at the expense of others.
11.01.2022 Advance TAFE are facing a partnership (merger/amalgamation - what ever you want to call it) with a decision deadline of a preferred partnership by our Board by the evening of Thursday 19th December. The goverment will make a decision Friday morning on Advance TAFEs future.... with an formal announcement before the end of the year..... all bad new is to be delivered this year as next year is an election year. A parnership with Fed Uni is the best option for East Gippsland - t...he other option is Chisholm, a metro TAFE with a melbourne centric management style. We would be facing closures, job loses and reduced services to our local community. Chisholm doesnt want this partnership its being encouraged by goverment.... their stance of there will be no forced mergers is hidden under the banner to talk to each other and come to a mutual decsion. They may not be forceably merging us, but they are holding the purse strings and holding our Exec and Board to ransom. WE NEED COMMUNITY SUPPORT & OUTRAGE. Email Tim - [email protected] and Email Darren - [email protected] http://www.communityrun.org//partnership-between-advance-t

09.01.2022 Not content with stripping hundreds of millions of dollars from TAFE, leading to campus closures, thousands of job losses, hundreds of courses closing and a big increase in student costs, the government has now introduced legislation into parliament to strip TAFE boards of their elected staff and student representatives. The government did not consult with staff and students or their unions. The NTEU strongly opposes these proposed changes. The NTEU believes that TAFE boards,... as the peak decision-making bodies for TAFEs, must include representatives of the staff and students, the most important people in the institution. These changes appear to reflect the governments view that TAFEs are no more than businesses selling qualifications, and therefore should be governed by bodies modeled on business enterprises. TAFEs are not corporations or businesses; they are important civic institutions with diverse responsibilities to the whole of society. This would also appear to be one further step down the path of privatisation of TAFE colleges. The legislation will be voted on in parliament in mid-November, so there is still time to have it withdrawn if we take action now. Please send messages (with CC or BCC to [email protected]) opposing the changes to TAFE boards to: Peter Hall, Minister for Higher Education and Skills: [email protected] Ted Baillieu, Premier: [email protected] The message does not have to be long or detailed. It just needs to state your opposition to the stripping of elected staff and student representatives from TAFE boards. Please act now. Other things you can do: Convene a meeting of staff (and students) in your area and pass a motion condemning the governments proposals, and calling on the TAFE to retain staff and student representatives on the Board. Please send copies of such motions to the NTEU. Sign the petition opposing the changes that the NTEU will be circulating. Write letters to newspapers. Contact the Victorian Division of the NTEU (9254 1930, or [email protected] for further information, for help with any of these activities, or to get involved in the campaign against Baillieus power grab. In solidarity Colin Long NTEU Victorian Division secretary
08.01.2022 We remind all our Advance TAFE staff that there are known cases across the world regarding dismissal of an employee who was caught out making inappropriate comments on the social networking sites. Disrespecting your colleagues, our teams or your employer online is not cool! Social networking is not the place to complain about events, processes or people. The Institute has a OFI process for these. If comments are seen to be in breach of policy, you may have a complaint lodged against you and be taken through the institutes performance management process, which in some instances can lead to dismissal. Thanks you.

04.01.2022 Congrats to our Sunraysia TAFE colleagues whos Enterprise (PACCT) Agreement was approved through FWA today.
04.01.2022 Did you know if you are a full time administration officer working 38 hours a week, paid as a PACCT Level 2.4 and working just overtime every day, youre donating approximately 130 unpaid hours to your employer every year, or 9 weekends a year. Each week this is costing you around $59, or $3092 a year. Make sure you go home on time, dont be a statistic contributing to Australian donating billions of unpaid overtime.
04.01.2022 Expect some good news this week, watch your emails for the announcement!!!
