25.01.2022 "Originally I'm from Nigeria. This is my fifth year here and it's home for me now, and for it to be really home I have to be a citizen and that's why I became o...ne. There's a lot of security here, just the freedom, the rights that you enjoy here is almost taken for granted. I did two master degrees in two years, and that's not something you could not do in Nigeria - the education system is not as straight forward there. There's been a lot of opportunities that have opened up for me here. The fear of the unknown was the biggest challenge moving to Australia, it felt like I was entering a new world. My immediate family are still in Nigeria and I have a sister who lives in the US. The first two years was a huge struggle, the home sickness was very bad. I think the best thing is when you find family here, it settles you, you miss your family still, but it's not like that homesickness where you feel like your heart wants to break. So I pretty much call Australia home now." See more

19.01.2022 New CEO appointment #SuniTAFE The Chair of the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE Board, Leonie Burrows is very pleased to announce the appointment of the Chief Exe...cutive of the Institute. Geoff Dea, who is well known and regarded locally, has accepted the position and he will commence in June. ‘The position was widely advertised and we had a strong field of candidates,’ Ms Burrows said. ‘With that in mind, the Board is absolutely delighted to appoint a local to the role.’ ‘Geoff brings strong leadership and financial management skills developed through his previous role as CEO of Crowe Howarth and most recently as Director Corporate Services at Mallee Family Care.’ Sunraysia Institute of TAFE has entered into a rebuilding period. Funding support from the State Government in 2015 has placed the Institute in a good position to provide extended training opportunities to the communities of north-west Victoria. The Institute has new buildings opening at the Mildura and Swan Hill campuses that will increase its delivery capacity - particularly in health and wellbeing programs and the trades. Building works have also commenced to extend the existing Indigenous Cultural and Training Centre which will have a new administration centre and two new classrooms. That project is due to be completed in May. Incoming CEO, Geoff Dea said, ‘I’m looking forward to taking up the role in June. There will be challenges but there are also new opportunities. The newly-opened Skills and Jobs Centre will enable the Institute to tailor the training it provides for local businesses and the community.’ Chair Leonie Burrows said that the outgoing CEO, Win Scott will be with the Institute until Geoff commences and during a handover period. Ms Burrows said, ‘Win’s significant contribution to SuniTAFE over ten years will be acknowledged before she leaves us.’ SuniTAFE...
