25.01.2022 LGBTI rights are a workplace issue- Despite significant gains for LGBTI people in Australia, such as legislation and changing community attitudes, LGBTI Australians continue to face discrimination when seeking work and once they are in a job. 53% of lesbians and gay men experience workplace harassment and discrimination. 95% of transgender workers transitioning in their workplace leave their job. Unemployment for transgender people is about four times that of the genera...l population and eight times for gender diverse people. 41% of intersex workers were in the lowest income bracket, earning less than $20,000 per year. #IDAHOBIT2020 See more

21.01.2022 Cleaners at UTAS are having their hours reduced - how is this consistent with getting more staff and students back onto campuses?! Please check in to this online rally organised by our sister union UWU to show your support for our cleaners.

19.01.2022 Thanks Tanya #FundUniFairly

19.01.2022 This scheme is a mess and it needs a full, frank inquiry. Today we got one step closer to defeating this bad law. The campaign continues.

18.01.2022 Hi Senator Jacqui Lambie please listen to Jenny Smith and all the thousands of Tasmanians who are counting on you! #FundUniFairly #BlockTheBill

18.01.2022 One of the main benefits of the Jobs Protection Framework is that it will stop casuals and fixed-term staff losing their jobs right now. The framework will mean... that many casuals and fixed term staff will get new work in semester two when they otherwise wouldnt have. For more info see our fact sheet for casuals: https://www.nteu.org.au/covid-19/jobs_protection_framework All members will get a say.

18.01.2022 The Advocate have picked up the story of potential changes for TIA. https://www.theadvocate.com.au//union-keen-for-detail-on-/

18.01.2022 NTEU National President Dr Alison Barnes: The ‘funding certainty’ that Senator Griff and Centre Alliance will deliver today to Australia’s universities is an o...verall funding cut of $1 billion. The passage of the Jobs-Ready Graduates Bill will lump a generation of students with overwhelming debt and deter many from seeking a university education. This legislation does nothing to address the funding and jobs crisis that is smashing our universities, with over 12,000 jobs lost and a revenue shortfall of nearly $3 billion. University employees are extremely disappointed Centre Alliance Senator Stirling Griff chose to support the Bill, allowing it to pass the Senate by the barest of margins. But the author of this mess is Dan Tehan and the Coalition Government, which has completely abandoned Australian universities during their worst ever crisis. Rather than stepping in with a robust support package, the Liberals and Nationals have pushed the cost of the crisis onto students and the university workforce. Livelihoods and careers will be destroyed and damaged by this legislation. The Bill will strip $1 billion of funding from universities, more than double the cost of many courses, in particular arts and humanities, and make it more difficult for many students to go to university. The government must also urgently address the estimated $7.2 billion funding shortfall for Australian research following the collapse of the international student market.

17.01.2022 Today staff at University of Tasmania & around Australia are sending a message to the Senate - please stand up for jobs and education. Weve got 15,800 signatures supporting #FundUniFairly #BlockTheBill Senator Jacqui Lambie

13.01.2022 Its here: Bluestocking Week 2020! Bluestocking Week is an initiative of the Womens Action Committee of the NTEU, celebrating the role of women and gender equality in higher education and scholarship. Bluestocking Week is named for the first generations of university women of the 19th century who grabbed the term and, even as it was used by their opponents as a derogatory dismissal of their achievements, proudly wore it as a badge of serious scholarship.... Join us this Friday for the annual Bluestocking Week Seminar this year titled "Women, Work & Covid" with Dr. Alison Barnes, Professor Rae Cooper and Sarah Mosseri. Make sure you register before Wedneday this week! http://www.nteu.org.au/women/bluestockingweek/2020/seminar For more information on the history and activities surrounding BSW, visit: http://www.nteu.org.au/women/bluestockingweek

13.01.2022 Since we cant be together physically for IDAHOBIT this year, were reminiscing on past actions and looking forward to the future when we can be active again. We must remember that even though COVID-19 has put a stop to our normal work and personal lives, people are still experiencing harassment and discrimination in the workplace. No matter what is happening in the world, this is unacceptable. We stand together and say everyone has a right to feel safe in the workplace. This year we are sending a message of solidarity, support and celebration to the LGBTIQA+ community from home in our rainbow colours, and heres to a time when we can rally together again. Happy IDAHOBIT from NTEU Tas Division. #IDAHOBIT2020

06.01.2022 In the wake of the announcement from SA ICAC regarding former VC Rathjen, we wrote to UTAS expressing concerns with the universitys investigation of his behaviour and made recommendations on how an investigation should occur. We are pleased that University management have taken member concerns on board and have initiated an independent inquiry. Excerpts from our letter below

05.01.2022 What is it about university staff that makes them so undeserving of Scott Morrisons help? The Government cannot explain why a university student working a $100... shift per week receives the full $1500 JobKeeper wage subsidy, while a full-time university worker with kids to support, is not eligible. Were relying on our brilliant universities and their researchers to find a vaccine for COVID-19 yet these people cant rely on Scott Morrison to protect their jobs.

04.01.2022 There are nowhere near enough upsides of this proposed legislation to justify the embedded cuts to base funding!

03.01.2022 The University of Tasmania spent more than $1.3 million on renovations of the vice-chancellors office and nearby administration area over the five years to 2016, the ABC can reveal.

03.01.2022 Andrew and David represent on #WearItPurple Day! The NTEU supports and celebrates diversity and young people from the LGBTIQA+ community. Head to https://www.wearitpurple.org/ for more info.

02.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC week! This week we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples & NTEU members.

02.01.2022 Tasmania is tipping into a recession with unemployment rate sitting above 12%. UTAS is a huge Tasmanian employer, and we need a Jobs Protection Framework to save jobs in higher education. #SaveHigherEdJobs
