23.01.2022 We have a strong team of students representing New Town High at the Southern Inter High Athletics Carnival at the Domain today! The team was selected from the top performers at our recent Athletics Carnival, and we wish everyone competing the best of luck with their events! Check out the post below for live updates of events for the day.

23.01.2022 Today New Town High celebrated Wear it Purple Day (belatedly due to the Grade 10s being out of school last Friday), where we encouraged staff to show their support for all LGBTQIA+ members of the NTHS community by wearing purple. Students had the opportunity to buy rainbow ribbons and other items in home group. We also had cupcakes for sale at recess, with donations and sales going to Wear It Purple. We were very proud to see the cupcakes were sold out by halfway through th...e break! Wear It Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. Although things seem like they’ve improved of late, alarming levels of LGBTQIA+ youth still experience bullying and harassment because of their identity. We want our LGBTQIA+ students to feel accepted by, and included in, the NTHS community, to know they have allies on staff who will support them, and to give greater representation, visibility and voice to LGBTQIA+ individuals & issues. To learn more, check out www.wearitpurple.org and www.minus18.org.au.

22.01.2022 Congratulations to both our New Town High teams who took part in Tournament of Minds this year! Both groups worked well in the 6 week creative problem solving challenge and have placed with Merit in the Social Science Secondary division! Special thanks to Tournament Of Minds Tasmania for working out a way for the challenge to go ahead! Well done to all other teams who competed this year.

22.01.2022 Our 9/10 hockey team has made it to the Southern Tas Hockey Grand Final! After playing every Monday afternoon this term, our boys are now set to take on Taroona High in the final on Monday 15 September at the Tas Hockey Centre. The game will start at 4:15pm. This season has been full of close contests, with our New Town High team only recording one loss all term. The Grand Final promises to be a fast paced and entertaining match.... Go get 'em boys! We wish you the very best of luck.

20.01.2022 This week is Testing Week for Grade 10 students in their core subjects - Maths, English, HPE, History, and Science! Classes will run as usual, with one lesson per subject given over to formal assessment in test conditions. Class teachers have been giving Grade 10s clear outlines of the process and assessments, to allow students to add to and improve their marks. It's also a good opportunity for them to experience something close to what they'll see at college!

19.01.2022 2020 Athletics Carnival Day 1 finished up with two ripper events, the 100m races and the NTHS Gift, where our fastest 24 students in the school competed in 3 divisions. We look forward to the events tomorrow, and finishing with everyone’s favourite event, the 4x100m relays!

09.01.2022 For 2020 NAIDOC Week, students in 9-1 English listened to and discussed the song ‘The Children Came Back’ by rapper Briggs (featuring lutruwita’s own Dewayne Everettsmith). Learners then selected one of the First Nations heroes mentioned in Briggs’ lyrics to learn more about. Either individually or in pairs, students spent a lesson conducting research and creating their one-page profiles. Class members Bryce, Jackson and Nick took over an unused display board to create a mini... gallery of First Nations Peoples biographies for all staff and students to view and read. https://youtu.be/3-wMbFntrTo #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

It will allow us to build on our already successful Hobart City Partner Schools’ collaboration with Ogilvie High and Elizabeth College. We are looking forward to working with you to bring this next stage of our partn...ership to fruition. Further information is available at https://www.education.tas.gov.au/community-and-engagement//
