25.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Recruit Squad 139 last week at the Police College. NTPA President Paul McCue and Northern Field Officer Steven Langdon spoke with them about the role the Association plays in their career. Good luck with the rest of your training!
25.01.2022 We honour the bravery of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community
24.01.2022 Information for our Southern members:
23.01.2022 It is difficult to understand how anyone could think it is acceptable to attack police in such a vile way. What absolutely disgusting behaviour to spit in the face of an officer who is just trying to do their job. Our frontline members are caring for the whole community and the simple fact is, we need to care for them.... #BackTheBlue
21.01.2022 REMEMBERING GLEN HUITSON: Members are reminded this Monday, 3rd August, marks the 21st anniversary of the death of Brevet Sergeant Glen Huitson. Glen was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1999, while stationed at Adelaide River. Your Association will remember ‘Huey’ with a short service on Monday at 10.30am on the corner Old Bynoe Road and Stuart Highway, Livingstone.
21.01.2022 Happy Friday!!
20.01.2022 Members of Strike Force Viper have been working hard to tackle the surge of property crime and vehicle thefts in Alice Springs - with some incredible results. Commissioner Chalker told ABC radio Alice Springs that Viper has put a significant dent in offending with more than 120 arrests, 75 allegedly involving youths, and identifying close to 40 alleged youth offenders who have either been diverted, remanded or placed before the courts. Great work Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan and the Viper team!
17.01.2022 On behalf of the NTPA membership, we congratulate Jermaine Ostrofski, who has been named the 2020 NT Aboriginal Community Police Officer of the Year! Well done Jermaine, and well deserved!
15.01.2022 IN MEMORY: Today we remember Constable Maxwell Clifford Gilbert who was killed in the execution of duty, on this day in 1948. Constable Gilbert joined the Northern Territory Police on 22 September 1947 and served in Tennant Creek and Darwin. He was travelling to Wauchope from Tennant Creek on a prisoner escort to Alice Springs when the vehicle he was driving overturned just north of Wauchope killing him.... He is buried in the Tennant Creek cemetery. Thank you for your service. RIP.
15.01.2022 A big welcome to the members of Accelerated Recruit Squad 137, who were sworn-in to the NT Police Force this morning! Today's ceremony was attended by NTPA President Paul McCue and Northern Field Officer, Steven Langdon.
15.01.2022 Congratulations to our NSW counterparts who are today celebrating 100 years of service! The Police Association of NSW held its first Executive meeting on the 8th of September 1920, and has been working hard to support its members ever since. Happy 100th birthday! #BlueFamily #BackTheBlue
15.01.2022 Last week NTPA President Paul McCue met with Nicole Manison : Member for Wanguri to congratulate her on retaining the Police portfolio in the Gunner government’s newly formed cabinet and discuss a wide range of important policing issues. We look forward to working with the Minister on addressing the key policing priorities identified by our membership in the lead up to the 2020 NT General Election, including remote policing, assaults on police, recruitment and staffing levels, mental health and wellbeing support services, and changes to the archaic internal discipline system.
12.01.2022 A big welcome to the members of Recruit Constable Squad 140, who were sworn-in to the NT Police Force this morning, in front of Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Jamie Chalker APM. Today's ceremony was also attended by NTPA President Paul McCue.
11.01.2022 Congratulations to our latest graduating members of Squad 137 and 138. We welcome the experienced officers from around the country together with many of our current Aboriginal Community Police Officers who have transitioned to the Constable rank. These boots on the ground will be a welcome addition to our hard working frontline. Well done to all on this outstanding achievement!
11.01.2022 NTPA President Paul McCue is addressing delegates at the opening session of the 2020 Annual Conference. #BackTheBlue
10.01.2022 This morning we paused to remember Sgt. Glen Huitson, tragically taken from us 21 years ago. We stand side by side with his family, friends and colleagues as we never forget the sacrifice made that day, serving and protecting the community. RIP Huey.
10.01.2022 Happy Thursday!
09.01.2022 The NTPA welcomes today’s announcement that Nicole Manison : Member for Wanguri will continue as Police Minister in the Chief Minister’s newly formed cabinet. President Paul McCue said the Association looks forward to working with the Minister on addressing the key issues identified by our membership in the lead up to the August election.

07.01.2022 Thanks to Senior Constable 1/C MATTIUZZO for sending us this photo recognising the all-female team working at Lajamanu station! Left to right: Aboriginal Liaison Officer MATTHEWS, Senior Aboriginal Community Police Officer COPELAND, Constable YANNER & Remote Sergeant KELLY. R/Sgt KELLY says the best thing about her job is Being able to engage with the community, by being remote you get to know the community on a different level, you learn their stories, culture and history a...nd they make you a part of their story. I constantly find I am told stories of when this Policeman or that Policewoman came to Lajamanu and as much as we are only a blip on their radar, they remember us. We sometimes forget the positive impact we have on people but in Lajamanu I have a constant reminder! The Lajamanu community is very cautious of visitors but protective of its permanent members. I have also learned that the misconception of the men standing over their woman is not always true, Lajamanu has a lot of strong woman who wear the pants. See more
07.01.2022 The glaring and obvious lack of action on the important issues of remote policing, assaults on our members, mental health and wellbeing, and changes to the archaic internal discipline system has worn thin. The blue uniform must be supported and protected, and that starts at the top. #BackTheBlue
06.01.2022 An important update for NT Wall to Wall riders:
05.01.2022 A big thanks to our major sponsor Police Credit Union for the generous donation of Nespresso Coffee Machines for our members right across the Territory. PCU NT Relationship Manager David Hair has been travelling with NTPA Northern Field Officer Steve Langdon and Southern Field Officer Pete Stowers to deliver the troops a much-needed caffeine hit!
04.01.2022 The NTPA welcomes the announcement of 131 additional frontline police and support staff to boost the NT’s border checkpoint capabilities during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, but is seeking an urgent breakdown of the $20 million investment to ensure there is sufficient funding for what is being promised.
02.01.2022 NATIONAL POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY Today we remember the brave men and women who tragically lost their lives while serving the community. We will never forget their bravery or sacrifice, nor their contribution to policing. Senior Vice President Lisa Bayliss represented the Northern Territory Police Association for National Police Remembrance Day events in Darwin.... She took part in a wreath laying ceremony at the NT Police Memorial Wall along the Esplanade, and a special service at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral. President Paul McCue attended the Alice Springs service. We will remember.
01.01.2022 The Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA) was shocked to hear of the arrest of two current serving officers on allegations of drug and other offences. While the officers have been stood down from duty, it is important to remember the matter is before the court and details of the allegations will be revealed through that process. It is also important to remember this will affect the officers’ families and colleagues, and the NTPA will be visiting stations in the Darwin ...area and contacting colleagues to offer support where necessary. The announcement this morning by Deputy Commissioner Smalpage regarding Drug and Alcohol testing for NT Police Officers is not a new concept. The NTPA has been in communication with government and senior police executive for several years regarding the proposal for NT Police to introduce a testing procedure similar to all other jurisdictions in the country. This has not progressed for some time and we will advise members if further correspondence is received, following this mornings announcement.
01.01.2022 IN MEMORY: We honour Mounted Constable Albert Stewart McColl, killed on this day in 1933. Mounted Constable McColl joined the Northern Territory Police on 25 May 1929 and served on the South West Patrol in Alice Springs, and also in Darwin. McColl was a member of a patrol into Arnhem Land following the murder of several fishermen in July 1933. He was left in charge of five aboriginal women witnesses at a camp on Woodah Island while the rest of the party went to investigate a ...group of men approaching the camp. When they returned they could not find McColl. His body was found the next morning a short distance away from the camp with a gaping wound in the chest and a shovel-nosed spear nearby. An Aboriginal man, named Tuckiar, was arrested for McColl's murder. He was tried found guilty and sentenced to death on 6 August 1934. An appeal was upheld by the High Court of Australia on 8 November 1934 the conviction quashed and Tuckiar was released immediately. Thank you for your service Mounted Constable McColl, RIP.
