21.01.2022 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a long and proud, but often little known history of contributing to Australia’s military efforts. On ANZAC Da...y, we remember this long history: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have fought for Australia in every war since Federation in 1901. Best current estimates via Australian War Memorial are that about 1,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples fought in the First World War, however, the real number could be higher. In 1944 nearly every Torres Strait Islander man was a member of the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalionin proportion to population, no community in Australia contributed more to Australia’s effort in World War II than the people of the Torres Strait Islands. Despite rules against their enlistment, over 3,000-4,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women are known to have enlisted in World War II. Tens of thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were killed in the Frontier Wars with recent estimates indicating 60,000 deaths in Queensland alone. http://bit.ly/FrontierWarsExplainer Take the time to learn more via - Our Mob Served: https://ourmobserved.anu.edu.au/ Australian War Memorial: http://bit.ly/AWMIndigenousDefenceService Lest We Forget. #Truthtelling #Reconciliation #ANZACDay

11.01.2022 First in the nation. It has been a long time in the making, but all Territorians can be proud of this great achievement. It's a reality that reflects the grow...ing numbers of women in the legal profession, and the immensely deserved appointment of former Solicitor-General Sonia Brownhill SC to the Supreme Court. Our courts should reflect our communities. And today marks an integral step in the right direction.
11.01.2022 Lest we forget. Thank you for your sacrifice and service.
10.01.2022 Have you heard of the award-winning Irish film "The Meeting" ? The film is based on a real meeting which took place between Ailbhe Griffith and the man who sexually assaulted her years earlier. "What emerges is a truly unique and unorthodox cinematic experience as Ailbhe courageously seeks healing through a progressive form of justice, rapidly gaining momentum throughout the world."... The NT Women's Lawyers Association is showing this powerful movie as part of NT Law Week. More details will be released soon - watch this space (and check out the trailer at the link below)!
