24.01.2022 NUbots are working to enhance their simulation capabilities with MATLAB and Simulink! Last year, NUbots had great success with one of their Computer Engineering final year projects. The result of that project was a physics simulation with the NUgus robots in Simulink. Currently NUbots have an undergraduate student working on the networking between the code base and MATLAB so the benefits of this project can be fully utilised, improving NUbots development away from the lab.
22.01.2022 NUbots is more than technical projects and needs a variety of people to help with events and travel, social media, marketing and student engagement, graphic design, and more! If any of this sounds interesting to you and you would like to join the team, head over to https://tiny.cc/JoinNUbots. If you have any questions message us or email us at [email protected].

10.01.2022 The Visual Mesh is a machine learning technique for computer vision that increases the performance and accuracy of a convolutional neural network by utilising the geometry of the 3D world. For the application of RoboCup, it determines what points on the field are likely to represent balls, goal posts, field lines or grass. The project was completed by a PhD student team member and is currently used in the vision system for the team’s robots. The NUbots team has many vision pr...ojects available to its members to work on that are directly or indirectly related to the Visual Mesh. Want to find out more? Check out these links! 09.01.2022 The Newcastle Show 2021 is hosting an Electronics Competition. This Saturday a $3000 1st place reward is given to the team that can tackle 7 categories of challenges such as design, construction and fault finding. If you think you are up to the challenge, you can enter here: t.ly/o6Rw
09.01.2022 In 2018, Brandon Zahn completed his Software Engineering individual Final Year Project with the NUbots team under the supervision of Alexandre Mendes. His work with the physics simulator Gazebo and a multi-objective genetic algorithm found its way to the 23rd RoboCup International Symposium, held in Sydney in July 2019. If you're interested in simulations, optimisation or machine learning, check out the paper in the link below! https://link.springer.com/chap/10.1007/978-3-030-35699-6_38
09.01.2022 Have your say! Following our talks during the Night of Robots, the NUbots team is looking for your feedback. Please have a read through the questions and let us know what you think! The questionnaire can be found here:... https://forms.gle/Se2SpvGFyrSBZFL27 See more
05.01.2022 Saturday was an exciting day for the NUbots team, with our new members getting a tour within the lab here on campus! Because of COVID, our robots have had some much needed maintenance work done after months out of the lab. Following UON COVID regulations, the new members got their hands dirty performing reconstructive surgery on the robots' ankle, knee, hip, and shoulder joints. In addition, one robot had sight returned after an accident resulted in a severed optic nerve.
04.01.2022 The NUbots team have been busy developing from home, and have a variety of tools to help develop without a robot. The NUbots hardware simulator can be paired with NUsight, a visual debugging tool, to view a simulated robot that can be used to test code. Recently NUsight has been used to test a new walk engine implementation!
