12.01.2022 QLD NETWORK UPDATE: Optus’ fibre transmission network is currently providing mobile and fixed services through most of Central and North Queensland. Fixed broad...band as well as Optus 3G and 2G mobile services are currently available in the major population centres of Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Gympie. Optus is currently providing primary mobile coverage in a number of these major population areas due to outages affecting other providers. We are currently sourcing more generators in an effort to ensure we can restore mobile coverage to as many mobile sites as possible. However due to major power failures there are disruptions to Optus mobile coverage across Central and South East QLD regions to varying degrees including Mt Isa, Longreach, Emerald, Dalby, Tin Can Bay, and Rainbow Beach. Where possible, we have deployed backup generators in accessible locations throughout the flood affected areas to allow us to respond to power outages. In South East QLD there are some disruptions to individual mobiles sites in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Toowoomba due to power outages. However overlapping coverage from surrounding mobile sites should ensure a continuation of services in the vast majority of areas. There are disruptions to Optus fixed voice and broadband customers in Brisbane and Ipswich areas due to power outages with the main suburbs affected including Tarragindi, Mansfield, Redcliffe, Wavell Heights, Indooroopilly, Windsor, Wynnum, Holland, Rochedale South, Regents Park, Loganholme and Toowong. We continue to monitor the situation closely. Should customers need to contact emergency services in the event of an Optus mobile service disruption, we encourage customers to call 000 from their mobile to be switched to the nearest available mobile network.
