24.01.2022 This week’s message: Know your triggers. Write them down. Remember the discomfort will pass. If you are triggered, remember to be kind to yourself. Recognising your triggers can help you understand where the anxiety may come from and help you to feel more at ease quicker #nuggetsofwisdom

22.01.2022 This week’s story time is Establish and maintain healthy boundaries. I could go on and on about this. Brené Brown describes boundaries as what’s ok, and what’s not ok, which I think is perfect. It’s so hard to say what isn’t ok, right? In terms of anxiety, having boundaries helps me a lot. I don’t force myself to do things I really don’t want to anymore. I say No with a lot less guilt also. What do you guys think? Shall I speak more on this? #nuggetsofwisdom #boundaries

21.01.2022 This! A perfect analogy for uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and experiences learning to surf or as I see it - cultivating skills to manage our discomfort is the way to go. We can’t always control events, thoughts, feelings - it is a part of being human. But we can control how we manage. Learning to ride the waves of anxiety, ocd, and depression (or whatever it may) is so brave and courageous and I want you to know that I was first introduced to mindfulness teacher J...on Kabat-Zinn by my very first therapist. She recommended these breathing exercise cd’s and so I bought them through her and they happened to be by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I didn’t know it at the time but I was actually meditating! These cd’s actually relaxed me so much that I’d fall asleep! His voice is really soothing, and he has a great book called Wherever you go, There you are. I hope this nugget resonates with you #nuggetsofwisdom See more

18.01.2022 It’s RU OK DAY. First of all, what a great organisation @ruokday is I like that it is about encouraging conversation around mental and emotional health. I always feel better when I share what’s troubling me, so I think this is a beautiful day to invite people to talk about stuff. It’s a great reminder to check in and listen to people, and if you swipe you’ll see some tips from the R U OK DAY insta on how to go about having the conversation. The last slide you’ll see that... 2yrs ago on R U OK DAY I shared my story on my socials, and while I was so scared to share, I’m glad I did. If I hadn’t, the Nuggets of Wisdom cards wouldn’t have come about, that’s for sure. I found it to be such a liberating experience. I hope you’re all well remember, help is ALWAYS available. If you’re thinking of seeing a therapist and live in Australia, you can request a mental health care plan from your GP for discounted sessions. Lifeline: 13 11 14. Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636 If you’re reaching out to friends and family: talk to someone you trust and you know is likely to be compassionate and loving. If you’re asking the questions and listening: Please do so with compassion and without judgement. Your empathy goes a long way. #nuggetsofwisdom #RUOK #ruokday See more

16.01.2022 This quote is a variation of Robert Frost’s quote: He says the best way out is always through. I love this because it’s so true. It sucks at the same time though, because walking through the fire is very painful, but it is also true that when we get to the other side we are reborn. #nuggetsofwisdom

14.01.2022 This week’s message - another golden nugget - You can trust yourself. Repeat, ‘I trust myself.’ Oooft this is a big life lesson for me. BIG. My hardest class, I hope I’m getting it right. What do you guys think? Seriously, though. Anxiety can make us distrust our own feelings because fear goes off when there is no physical danger. So that confusion and distrust then spills into the rainbow of all human emotions clouding our ability to see all feelings as valid. Heads up - they’re all valid. You C A N trust yourself. I hope this helps #nuggetsofwisdom

13.01.2022 S T O R Y T I M E This week’s message is This too shall pass. Indeed it always does A tiny phrase, yet such a truthful and powerful reminder that all things shift, change and pass... watch til the end to see a photo of my ring that inspired this nugget #nuggetsofwisdom

10.01.2022 Hi all, I hope you’re well! Who here meditates? Up until last year, I was a tai chi and meditation teacher for 10yrs. It might sound ironic how one who has anxiety can teach others how to relax but as the saying goes you teach what you most need to learn! I think Oprah said that. There are so many techniques you can use to help you meditate. My favourite meditations happen to be Buddhist practices: Mindfulness and Metta (loving-kindness). Mindfulness is brilliant ...because you don’t need to be seated or lying down. Mindfulness is the awareness of whatever is happening in the present moment, whether it’s good, bad, or ugly. During my relapses, mindfulness was the lesson theme for a long time. Because I intuitively knew this would help me too, and it did. It’s the only thing that made sense, because it’s all about observing and lovingly accepting whatever you’re experiencing. Even if you’re resistant, mindfulness helps you to accept that too Metta is a self-love and self-compassion mantra meditation. It involves the repetition of loving words to yourself. The idea is to fill yourself with this loving-kindness energy, and from there, you send this energy to others For anxiety, I recommend these practices. Anything to do with observation of the present moment and self-love are high on my list. Visualisations are ok; but if you already have a wild imagination with anxious thoughts, it may take a bit longer to get grounded Even though I don’t teach it anymore, I still meditate every day, sometimes more than once. I’ve found it to be an amazing tool to help me regulate my emotions Meditation apps to try: Insight Timer, Calm, Headspace, Smiling Mind, and The Mindfulness App I hope this is helpful! Meditation can be a wonderful tool along side therapy, medication, diet, exercise, hobbies, routines etc. I find healing to be a holistic endeavour. All types of healing have a place #nuggetsofwisdom See more

03.01.2022 This week’s message for you guys: It’s ok to not know right now. Often we want to know the answer in the moment we have the question. But sometimes we don’t need the answer right away. Sometimes it’s ok to be in the in between space and to let things unfold in their own time as they’re meant to #nuggetsofwisdom
