21.01.2022 Numas early morning movers and breathers

20.01.2022 Day 4: Sirsasana (headstand) Ive been really enjoying this pose. Its quite stimulating, energetic and exciting. I like the feeling of creating a brace for myself: it feels supportive, strong and peaceful. Headstands warm the body and tone the neck muscles. Be cautious: the neck is not to be experimented with, this is a great one to do IN class so that a teacher can carefully guide you into it. My top tip in class is to enter headstand via a really narrow downward facing do...g (facing the wall). That way, your hips are high and focus is on STRENGTHENING that brace youve created for yourself. You do NOT want to slump into the neck. So, headstand this is another personal favourite at the moment. Im really excited to say that next week, Ive decided to post more accessible variations of all of this weeks poses just to get you up, moving and inspired, no matter where youre at. Thanks for checking in (sorry to post so late, we had a great night of classes tonight Come visit us soon!) Thanks also to Jed for this See more

18.01.2022 Hey all, this is just to let you know that classes wont be running this week only (Im taking a few days off!). Well be back on next week, so bring a friend and well see you soon!

18.01.2022 Peaceful moments on the mat Fabulous classes this morning. Thank you all for coming!! Join us soon! Its the perfect way to start your day

18.01.2022 Day 1: Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog pose) Wherever you're at in your yoga practice, downward facing dog is a pose you'll keep coming back to. I love it because it's a gentle inversion (where the head is below the heart) and there are HEAPS of benefits to inversions!! They're great for circulation, they radically heat the body, they help to build stamina and they usually include a nice release for the neck. My top tip is to CREATE SPACE between the shoulders, the biceps and the ears. You'll feel a lovely long line from the top of the head to the tailbone and from the sit bones to the heels. Grow hamstrings, grow!!

17.01.2022 All these bolsters are ready for classes this week Ive actually stuffed the blue ones with fluff made from recycled water bottles from a company called Inner Green Im super excited to put them to use for Breathe on Saturday!

16.01.2022 Next week we are coming up to our fourth week of Numa Yoga and to celebrate, I'll be posting 7 of my favourite poses, one for every day of the week, with some tips for your home practice! So watch this space, join us on the mat soon and THANK YOU www.numa-yoga.com

15.01.2022 Day 5: Shanti Virabhadrasana (peaceful warrior pose) I love this version of a warrior. It feels reflective and spacious for the side body. Its great for strengthening the legs and ankles, opening the hips and developing stamina. Perfect for a Friday to spring into the weekend My top tip for this one is to concentrate from the ground up: bring your weight evenly into both feet, and evenly between the balls of the feet and the heels to create a good base of support. Develop... good postural awareness by making sure the bent knee is nicely aligned with the ankle (a mirror to your side is helpful!), slightly tuck the tailbone and feel the immense loveliness of a well-stacked yoga pose. Two more poses to go, and Im excited to say: theyll be rest poses! So I hope to inspire you to rejuvenate. Dont forget to book into class tomorrow morning! See you there! See more

15.01.2022 Day 7: Balasana (child's pose) This is the perfect way to finish a sequence. Child's pose is a wonderful release for the hips and lower back while at the same time relaxing the shoulders, head and neck. It compresses the abdomen, and feels close and insular. In this pose, intentional breathing cools, soothes and massages the whole body. My top tip for child's pose is to let the backs of the hands rest on the mat to relax the shoulders. Stay here for a while: the picture is re...flective and inward. Bring the breathe into a regular rhythm, and give thanks for the gift of life. You'll notice it calming the body and quietening the mind. Thanks for joining me this week! I hope you got to know me a little more and you're also feeling inspired to practice yoga! I'd love to see you in class and stay tuned for my next series on variations that will get you up, moving, and confident throughout the day xo See more

15.01.2022 Day 2: Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (upward facing dog pose) To stay with the dogs for another day, I love this pose. Its a strong one targeting a LOT of different muscle groups. Its great for strengthening the lower back, the arms and the upper body, AND it gives you that nice stretch down the front of the body. If backbends are in your practice: open the chest, draw the shoulders back and down and plug into those arms. Youll feel wonderfully strong and open in this pose. My to...p tip is keep your upper legs OFF the mat so that you dont crunch the lower back (agh pain !), you dont want to slump and cave into that tender lower back region. By keeping the thighs off the ground and pressing into the tops of the feet, youre STRENGTHENING and creating a spinal arch with all the benefits of a back bend done right (spinal health, stability, circulation). THEN, with your core switched on, you can roll on over the toes into your downward facing dog. Dont be overwhelmed if youre new to yoga, because practice takes time! Id love to work with you, and I do believe that yoga is for everyone, there are variations for everything (I think Ill do another series on that soon!) See more

14.01.2022 Logistics for tomorrow - It's not too late to register!

14.01.2022 Hi all, Im very sorry to say that yoga is cancelled tomorrow morning. I am sick (queue sad music), so Ill save you the sniffles and yoga with you next week. Enjoy the sunshine! Numa xo

13.01.2022 All these bolsters are ready for classes this week I've actually stuffed the blue ones with fluff made from recycled water bottles from a company called Inner Green I'm super excited to put them to use for Breathe on Saturday!

13.01.2022 THANK YOU to everyone who joined a Numa Yoga class over the weekend. We had a blast! Make sure you book yourself in for classes this week: Thursday night and Saturday morning (numa-yoga.com for details) Lets yoga soon!

12.01.2022 Day 6: Supta Baddha Konasana (reclining bound angle pose) Well this is a dreamy pose (that's why I'm smiling!)! Most days, I'll start my yoga practice in the mornings in this pose. A reclining bound angle pose releases tension in the hips and relaxes the inner leg and abdominal muscles. It's deeply nourishing the body and it's great for relieving lower back pain. I'm actually lying back onto a bolster starting at my lower back which is creating a subtle arch, perfect after ...a long day of sitting at work, a long sleep, or after a car ride or commute. My top tip for this pose is to RELAX. Let the body soften into the bolster or the mat. Notice also my double chin! It's a nice release for the neck to bring the chin to the chest so that you can feel that length from the very top of the back of the neck right through to the spine. Enjoy! Happy Saturday. Thank you to those who made it out to classes this morning (Excuse the remains of physio tape on my foot!)

05.01.2022 Day 3: Bakasana (crane / crow pose) Some Wednesday fun! This one tones the abs and the upper body. Its a great intro to balancing and really makes you let go of those inhibitions! Im working on my tuck, drawing the feet closer to my bum, and strengthening my core so that I can start jumping back from here. (Watch this video, its a great intro to jump backs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJEZnWOu2H0). Beware of the wrists in this pose, its a strong one. My top tip is keep the hips high and LOOK FORWARD. Listen to your body and centre yourself. Breathe. When youre ready to come out of the pose, take a comfortable seat and do some nice gentle wrist rolls to release the wrists. I hope youre enjoying this week of my favourite poses! Classes tomorrow night, super excited, join us! 6:15pm and 7:30pm
