24.01.2022 A small box of herbs makes a lovely father’s day gift for a gardening dad. These are red chicory, borage, yarrow and spearmint.Happy Father’s Day!

22.01.2022 Thank you to the person who left the long leaved tuckeroo (Cupaniopsis newmanii) seed on my gatepost this week, a lovely smaller rainforest tree. The seed collecting season is just beginning as the most abundant time for rainforest seed is summer and autumn. It’s my intention to document everything I’m collecting this year on this page and hope it might be helpful to those interested in knowing about what’s out there and how abundant it is.

22.01.2022 Price increase to $5 each for native trees April 1st 2021. A long overdue price increase is necessary to cover the rising cost of nursery supplies. So for the rest of March with the wonderful rain there's never been a better time to plant trees. Come and get them while they're still $4 each or 3 for $10! Thank you to everyone for returning pots to be reused. This has certainly helped keep the price low for a long time....so please keep up the supply of empty ones at the nursery gate! Thank you.

20.01.2022 It’s time to plant basil for lots of summer pesto recipes

20.01.2022 Due to increasing demand Numulgi Nursery is growing I am applying for a Southern Cross Credit Union grant to expand the capacity to grow plants on site, including a larger range of bush food species, bird/butterfly attracting shrubs/trees, more local rainforest plants, herbs and fruit trees. If you feel motivated to write a comment about how the expansion of this local nursery would benefit you and/or the community it would be much appreciated and I will compile the comments to add to my application, demonstrating community support. Thanks

20.01.2022 Sensational powderpuff lilly pilly (Syzygium wilsonii) out in flower now.

18.01.2022 Black sapote seedlings emerging

17.01.2022 A big thanks to everyone who has dropped off unwanted pots and punnets at the nursery gate. It seems to happen when I’m not around so I haven’t been able to thank you personally . The recycling of this resource helps to keep the price of plants low, with the other obvious benefit of keeping plastic out of landfill as much as possible. All pots of any size, shape or colour most appreciated

10.01.2022 The nursery expansion has begun

09.01.2022 Small leaved tamarind (Diploglottis cambellii). This local native is fruiting now and has an abundance of tangy fruit, great for making jam. There are few mature trees left in the wild so it's considered rare and threatened, but making comeback through propagation by nurseries.

09.01.2022 Little Gem is a great little cos lettuce with sweet, tender leaves. It’s size makes it useful for small gardens and containers. It’s hardy, heat resistant and slow to bolt which is important as we come into the warmer season.

08.01.2022 New season seed has arrived ready for autumn plantings!! Organic vegie, herb and flower seedlings will be ready in around 3 weeks. If you're a keen, early season planter check the stall the last week of February.

07.01.2022 This is such a busy time of the year for seed collection, seems like every trip I make to any destination unearths more seed. This one is snow wood ( Pararchidendron pruinosum) a small local pioneer rainforest tree with seed pods similar to an acacia.

05.01.2022 Beautiful blue quondong (Elaeocarpus grandis) seeds are falling now. You will find many close to rivers and streams. They tumble around in moving water which wears off the the blue outer flesh and cracks them open. After the wet season they may land on a bank somewhere and a new tree sprouts. A great tree for regenerating rainforest, tall, fast growing and majestic.

05.01.2022 After a bit of a rough start to the season, learning how to deal organically with soil fungus that loves living in green houses (cinnamon and spag moss it turns out, are great for preventing damping off) the autumn seedlings are now healthy and beginning to emerge onto the roadside stall.

01.01.2022 Native frangipani (Hymenosporum flavum). Very hardy, fast growing, fragrant native.

01.01.2022 Delicious Jaboticaba fruit are ready for harvest now......these are true to type, meaning if you plant the seed you will get a tree with fruit that look and taste like the one you planted... no need to graft them

01.01.2022 The new green house is almost finished and working well as a protected place to raise vegetable, herb and flower seedlings. Spring is here!!!
