17.01.2022 Reminder about the next Cemetery walk let me know if you are interested??? It is now one year since the first one. Thanks to everyone who has supported the idea and joined in.

16.01.2022 Reminder the cemetery walk is next Sunday at 6.30 pm to avoid the heat. Let me know if interested please??

14.01.2022 Just a reminder, that the Museum is open Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. Our latest display is audio-visual equipment from the past. We also have a display about Coonanga Homestead (By the way, does anyone know the meaning of Coonanga? We haven't been able to find a meaning in any historical records.) We are also working on updating our medical display in the Isolation Ward. We continue to practice and encourage COVID-safe habits (hygiene, social distancing and collecting co...ntact details), and as of Sunday midnight, members and visitors to the Museum must wear a mask or other face-covering when coming into the Museum. It is interesting from a historical point of view, to Google "face masks from the past" - some very interesting information for those "into" history. We obviously need to take COVID-19 seriously, but here's a lighter side related to History!!! Thanks for your continuing support. See more

14.01.2022 Our Museum is re-opening!! As of this coming Wednesday 17th June, we will be open on Wednesdays and Sundays, between 1.30 and 3.30pm. Check out our new displays: "Coonanga Homestead" and "Audio-Visual Home Entertainment from the past". It will be great to have some visitors again! CLICK ON THE ATTACHED PHOTOS TO SEE MORE INFORMATION

14.01.2022 The Museum is back open again.....but don't forget your masks if visiting us. Please see attached invitation to our upcoming pianola opening.......

13.01.2022 Due to further COVID-19 restrictions, the Historical Society Museum will NOT open on Wednesdays and Sundays as usual, until further notice. The upcoming Cemetery Walk (this Sunday) has also been cancelled. Take Care!!

12.01.2022 Our museum is open over Easter. We welcome locals and visitors to the town. Opening hours: Easter Sunday: 1.30 - 3.30pm and Easter Monday: 1.30pm to 3.30pm

12.01.2022 What sort of presents did you receive at Christmas as a child? Was it toy cars, dolls, games, puzzles, trikes.....? COME AND SEE OUR LATEST DISPLAY - "CHRISTMAS GIFTS FROM THE PAST" at the Historical Society museum. This display will be on show over December and some of January. Check out Santa, as well. Also, we'd love to hear about your memories of special Christmas gifts.....one of mine was MECCANO!!!

10.01.2022 Just to let everyone know that even though the Museum is closed to the public doesn’t mean that things have stopped inside. Due to the isolation we are not seen but research and sorting is still going on. The next few cemetery walks have been completed with new families.... just wait to fix a date. Our new handrails have been installed and the dust will be cleared before we open the doors again. We hope to see you all when that happens... but in the meantime let us know if we can be of assistance in your research... especially as we have just had our own personal reflective Anzac days. There maybe a family member you would like some info on who served in one of the wars... we may be able to help. Please all follow the directions to isolate, stay safe and this inconvenience will be over soon.

10.01.2022 Our Museum remains closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, however we have recently commenced "A Window Into History" where the four windows of our museum that front Knox and Melville Streets have snippets of local history that may interest you. At the moment we are concentrating on the background of where our town street names come from , and some of the earlier businesses in those streets. Have a look as you walk past the Museum. We have also placed a display in one of the emp...ty shops between the NAB Bank and the Vets in Melville St. This display relates to past Numurkah Shows and acknowledges that this year's show has been cancelled ("the Show that never was"). (see photos) The Numurkah Historical Society has registered with Ritchies IGA as one of the recipients of their Community Benefit Fund. Please consider becoming part of this Fund by either going into their website (www.ritchies.com.au/loyalty) and joining or talking to one of the staff about how to join. When joining the Ritchies Card program you are given the option to nominate your favourite club school or charity (known as Recipients). Each time you scan your card (either physical card or electronic card in the App) when making a purchase at any of our participating stores, the total is recorded to your chosen club, school or charity. At the end of each month, Ritchies will pay your chosen club, school or charity .5% of the total accrued directly into the Recipient’s nominated bank account*. PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING THE NUMURKAH HISTORICAL SOCIETY AS YOUR CHOSEN ORGANISATION. See more

08.01.2022 Just to let you know.........as per today's Victorian Government and Moira Shire COVID directions, the Historical Society museum will not be open this coming Sunday 14th February and Wednesday 17th February. We will let you know when we are re-opening. Just a preliminary announcement: we will be having a special PIANOLA day (likely to be Sunday 28th February) to celebrate the return of our pianola to "playing condition". Come along and enjoy playing the piano, without knowing how to play the piano!!!! More info. to come.

07.01.2022 We remember our ANZAC

06.01.2022 We have just finished setting up a new mini-display at the Museum. Come and have a look at our tin Willow Ware display in the Dining Room. What tin Willow Ware do you have at home? Here's some examples:

03.01.2022 Even though our museum is closed until further notice, we can still follow-up any family research enquiries. Please e-mail us at: [email protected] with your contact details and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can contact us by phone (see attached photo for contact phone numbers)

02.01.2022 # For those last minute Christmas presents, consider buying a book from the Historical Society. We have a range of local history books on sale at the Lions Market this coming weekend. # The Museum will be closed over the Christmas - New Year period but will reopen again on the first Sunday in January where you can enjoy browsing around our many display items, including "Toys and Games From The Past" which will be on display throughout the January School Holidays.....so bring the kids or grandkids along and talk about toys, games and lots of other things from the past!!
