25.01.2022 October Newsletter (In November): The October Fest program is well in hand with some very nice German music for those at the October Fest in November. We could not fit it into October for many reasons. The cost is the same as usual $25.00 per head plus you buy drinks at the bar. There will be lots of raffles of goodies to take home. The band will also be playing on the eighth of November (Friday evening the Eighth of November) at the Anglican fete. The next obligation for t...he band is on Remembrance Day, Monday the Eleventh after that, next on the agenda now, is Carols by Candlelight. It is a bit scary to see that it is only a few weeks to Christmas. On our band practice night, four weeks ago, we farewelled Tom, if you were at the ANZAC ceremony this year you would have seen young Tom render the last post perfectly. Sadly, for the band, Tom is heading off to Western Australia, so that practice was his last with us. It was nice to hear Tom express the members of the band as being part of his family. Fare thee well Tom and always keep in touch; also, if you are in town, we will have a trumpet aside for you if you cannot fit yours into your luggage. Awards: over the last couple of weeks awards were presented to members of the band. (See attached pictures) Jeff has been with the band for five years now how time flies. Valerie and Paul have also been presented awards of appreciation. Valerie and Paul are not Numurkah people, so their contribution is greatly appreciated because they travel from Shepparton. They have also spent some time at weekends in the band hall arranging music in the library. This type of support is greatly appreciated by the band. I understand that Valerie has spent a lot of time arranging the library and Paul has downloaded music from the internet and rearranged it for the many instruments of the band; this has been a time-consuming job, as it was explained to me, the band would be lost without him. Paul is an accomplished musician who can be heard playing equally well in both the bass and trumpet parts of the band when called on to position himself with those instruments. Jeff is a gifted musician who is an accomplished pianist and plays tenor horn graduating (up) from the trumpet to the horn section. Valerie brings her skills with the French horn but I understand that she is also a tenor horn player and plays the cello as well. I have the pleasure of sitting between Valerie and Jeff and be able to listen to their playing while I do my bit. Jeff has also accepted the role of Vice Chairman since Kelsey has decided to bow out for personal reasons. Bye, for now, keep well and keep supporting the Numurkah Town Band after all it is your band. Do not forget to drop in and have a listen to our practice sessions, enjoy a bite of supper with us, a cuppa and a chat with the band members on any Tuesday night. Cheers for now Comms. See more

24.01.2022 Hello to all of our Numurkah Town Band supporters. Once again the newsletter for this month has been delayed but standby and it will be up soon; meanwhile, I have been having a look at some interesting music on the net and I have found a lovely song from Ireland by a simply gorgeous you lady the song it is named "Lady Of Knock" I chose the female vocalist because I think it is very appropriate. Enjoy! And stay tuned for the newsletter which will be posted by the end of the week. Blessings to all, keep well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di8Fy11jYwQ

23.01.2022 The Numurkah Town Band has a piece of Australiana to sell. This STC (Standard Telephones and Cables) radiogram is a collector’s item. The cabinet is in good condition as seen from the images. This great Australian company only produced products of the best quality, so this item is a keepsake of our former Australian greatness in manufacturing. The record player, the same as the amplifier for the radiogram is Stereophonic; and can be used to play your favourite vinyl disks. The turntable is a Garrard. This is an auto ten stack record player; they were the best domestic unit at the time. The record player and the radio and amplifier can be repaired if needed. It would be appreciated if interested people would make an offer for this piece of Numurkah Town Band property, the amount raised from the sale will go into the band funds.

23.01.2022 Last Month I put up a post of a person playing both the didgeridoo and the hang drum. I also made a comment about his singing, mentioning his capacity to sing overtones; which I believe was learned from the music of Mongolian throat music so here is a sample of that for your enjoyment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za8N1DLMuR0

20.01.2022 News Bulleting from the Numurkah Town Band. Last night 26 November Siegfred Seiter called into the band hall, while we were having our practice session to present a cheque from our fundraiser. This was the third annual October Fest that we have played for the avenue which was provided by the Seiter family. Siegfried made comments about the playing of the band on the night and noted that his brother Alfred described the band as more than a band but really an orchestra. There w...ere many positive comments about the music that we played. A big thank you to the Seiter family for the hard work done to make this evening a great success. Last night we also had a rearranging of the chairs again as the numbers are filling the band hall --- but more are welcome. There was also a comment made about support for the Carols By Candlelight on the 20th of December so I will pass to you all once again, to come along and join the choir, singing is good for you so do yourselves some good and come along and join in the Christmas Praise. Cheerio. Merry Christmas. NB: I have put a photo up of the cheque being presented. See more

18.01.2022 April Newsletter 2020. Hello to all of our town band members and supporters. It was unfortunate that because of the virus problem, that we could not farewell Shaun by having a celebration for his farewell. Shaun has left the band and will take up a post with the RAN as an instructor. No doubt, he will make a good instructor as we know that he has been a valued member of the band and we will certainly miss his witticisms and great musical talent, as well as his substantial abi...lity to look after our books as treasurer but especially in playing the tuba in Colonel Bogey. On behalf of the band, thank you Shaun, for the great support that you have given to the band and we wish you well as you resume your career in the Navy. God speed and may the winds be fair. There is not much to report on the activities of the band as we are in lock-down. I am still sorting out how to get the web page installed on my computer, so that it will run without having to completely rebuild it. Meanwhile you can still view our web page as usual. And I will continue to search for nice music to put on the Facebook page for your enjoyment. Bye for now. Comms. See more

11.01.2022 August Newsletter 2019: Hello to all of you Numurkah Town Band members and supporters. As we approach the time for the AGM on the 3rd September, I suppose it is time to look at the changes to your town band in recent times. Firstly, the membership of players has increased dramatically. Last Tuesday night we welcomed an extra clarinet player and another trombone player. There were a few heads missing on the night but I still counted 18 players and of course our illustrious ban...dmaster. Our financial position is much improved, thanks to the efforts of members and we have spent valuable dollars on improving the appearance of the band, as well as promotional logos etcetera; for instance, we have now had a Numurkah Town Band logo placed on the Numurkah town notice board so that as you enter Numurkah township, you can see we are present and active. In recent times, we have had a large photo taken and mounted, of the members as at of this year 2019. It is on the wall of the band hall for all to see and of course, this also belongs to the history of Numurkah. At our play-outs, spectators will see that we have nice banners displayed on each band member’s music stand. We have upgraded our uniform and we also have a tee-shirt promoting the Numurkah town band although it is a bit cold to wear it at present. Our band committee managers also ensure that uniforms are worn correctly and up to standard; so, there is a bit of discipline applied to ensure we are up to the proper presentation. The band has also laid out the money for extra seats, for occasions when needed at play-outs, so that we do not have beg, borrow, or hire same. From feedback at our various functions, we continually get told that the quality of music is great and the community is becoming more aware that the music we play, has a great variety, from pop to classical notwithstanding, that we still play ceremonial music in the form of brass band at the various ceremonial functions for the town community. To conclude this newsletter, I have to say that your Numurkah Town Band is going well, we have several junior members who are enjoying free tuition but also keep in mind that we welcome any musician to join our ranks but if you have a desire to learn music or rekindle your old music talent that has still been left on your bucket list, we have a no test offer to enter our band membership. Perhaps you want to be a non-playing member, well we have a place for you too. Cheers from all at Numurkah Town Band and from Laurie (Comms). See more

10.01.2022 September Newsletter 2019: I have been hanging back on this month’s newsletter waiting for the AGM, also for the repairs on the outside of the band hall to be completed. This week gone the Numurkah Leader published an article on the Numurkah Town Band, with emphasis on the refurbishing of the building as well as a bit of history of the band and some background on the building. The street on which the band hall sits, is named now after many years of negotiations, so we now ha...ve an address at last to tell people where the band hall is; look for StringerWalk, when the local maps are updated. There are moves all the time to improve on the facilities for members and community, as well as the image of the band in the eyes of the public, so in recent months: we have acquired a water heater for our supper room, and the old air-conditioner has been removed from the South wall. We are in the process of having a phone installed, so we will have a permanent phone number, so that if necessary, contact can be made while we are at practice sessions, this will be handy for parents when we have students having lessons. I have included some photos for you today: they are images of our kitchen upgrade, a view of our substantial music library, and some views of the newly refurbished band hall. You will also notice from the pictures that the band hall has been upgraded for the disabled with a ramp at the entrance.Keep in mind that the Numurkah Town Band belongs to the Numurkah community, the band members work hard to maintain this institution on your behalf. We have Tee shirts and mugs to sell as fund raisers for the band, so be sure that you support the band by making orders for them. I will put pictures and prices up for both in the next newsletter in a couple of weeks, they are very reasonably priced. Do not forget to drop in on our practice sessions to see what we do and join us for supper around 9.00 pm for a chat and a cuppa, when we finish our practice sessions on Tuesday nights, they start at 7.00pm. We are also grateful of the support given by the Numurkah Leader with the recent publication. Cheers Comms. See more

08.01.2022 Feeling extremely grateful to the Bendigo Bank for their financial support to purchase new instruments for our volunteers. The Numurkah Band has survived over 135 years only through the efforts of the local citizens, organisations and council. Can't wait to post pictures with the new tools and some very happy musicians. To all Members and supporters please ensure you pass your appreciation to the bank employees if you are nearby. .The Happy Treasurer

08.01.2022 February Newsletter 2020. Firstly, I wish to welcome yet another new member to the Numurkah Town Band in the form of a Saxophonist so a big welcome to Jane. It has also come to my notice too, that music enthusiasts look up the Numurkah Town Band and see that we are noted as a brass band. The feeling is from that is that other instrumentalists are not welcome; so please note that we have flautists, saxophonists, clarinettists, and a base guitar player; also, vocalists as well ...as our brass instruments. Whatever you play or if you have a yen to provide a voice, come along and speak to us and note that sometimes we call for string players as well. Playouts: At the market day on April the 18 (that will be a Saturday) you will find us at the skate park end of the function, we will be rendering a variety of music for your hearing pleasure. On ANZAC day the Numurkah Town Band will also be present to celebrate this event with appropriate music. The band, will also joining the marchers, from the post office building to the cenotaph with of course the exception of them that are aged and infirm, meaning at least me. The band will also be in attendance, at Nathalia in the afternoon to support the Nathalia community to celebrate ANZAC day as well. Please be aware that the band will be doing some practice drills in preparation for the march, so do not panic, we are not getting ready for another war but there will be a bit of activity near the band hall on occasions before ANZAC day. Do not forget that we are here to serve the Numurkah community the band belongs to the Numurkah community it is Numurkah’s/your own town band. The Numurkah Town Band is a volunteer non-profit organisation, we rely on being compensated for requested playouts in the form of a donation to support the band, to maintain its image in the community and buy and repair instruments. We get great support from our instrument repairer at Tooleybuc so if you have a brass instrument that you think needs repair contact us and we can direct you to him. Note a visit to his workshop alone is worth the trip. Also if you wish to support your local and unique Numurkah Town Band you can find us at www.numurkahtownband.com.au and make a donation, call anyway and leave us a message. You can also find us on Facebook just type in Numurkah Town Band. Bye for now, keep well, from Comms. See more

05.01.2022 Hello to all you members and supporters of the Numurkah Town Band. Yesterday morning I was looking at pictures on my phone when I found an music file. To my surprise, I had accidentally triggered the camera on my phone when I went to our last practice session. This was before we were obliged to suspend our practice sessions because of the new rules about the Covid-19 virus. What happened was, that I arrived at the band hall and put my phone in my music practice case and because it was recording, it recorded the practice session until the battery went flat. So here it is the best session of it, for you, uncensored. Just keep in mind that this is not a performance but a practice session. I hope you can enjoy what happens at our final practice session before we suspended activities. Cheers Comms.

05.01.2022 November 2019 Newsletter: The October Fest on Saturday night, the 9th November at Siegfried and Betty Seiter’s (held in November) was a great success. Thanks once again for the support from the Seiter family and those nameless volunteers on the bar. Our listeners enjoyed a night of fabulous German music and we enjoyed playing it for them. It was a good rollup, the only problem was that people asked for more music, perhaps if we do it again, we might bless their ears with some... more tunes and see more dancing. The raffle went well and winners took home quite a few goodies. Our thanks to our audience for supporting that raffle too and a big thank you to the members of the band who made the October Fest possible. Things have been happening around the town for the band as well, and you can find the band hall now it has a real street address. Signage has been installed, by the Moira Shire, so that we are more easily found. We thank them for the continued support given. I will put a picture of the sign post up for you. Numbers are on the increase again, we are about to start two more new members very soon; that brings our number up to over twenty. Do not forget that there is a standing invitation to come along to the band hall on practice nights to hear us in practice and share a cuppa and a chat with the musicians and visitors afterwards. Finally, the invitation to any person whether a muso or not; who wants to dust off that old instrument and join us and for the person who aspires to learn to play, come along and enjoy free lessons and the use of an instrument if one is available, if you do not have one. You will never know if you do not try also the band does not have a hire charge for the use of available instruments. Finally, we will be playing as usual for the Christmas Carols on the 20th December if you are any sort of singer please come along and join the choir to sing the Christmas Carols; books with the words of the carols are usually available. Keep well. Not many sleeps, till Santa comes, cheers from Comms. See more
