The whole of South Australia will officially be in Fire Danger Season tomorrow, with the final fou...r districts: Adelaide Metropolitan, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East, and Mount Lofty Ranges, commencing their season from midnight tonight. Residents in these areas need to ensure that any fuel reduction burns are completely extinguished and find alternate options for clearing away excess vegetation, such as council green waste disposal. Please make sure your Bushfire Survival Plan is up-to-date and that you are familiar with your Fire Ban district, and what you can and can't do during Fire Danger Season and on days of Total Fire Ban. 17.01.2022 Total Fire Bans have been declared for 15 April 2020 in the following Fire Ban Districts: Mount Lofty Ranges - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, ...very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. For further information contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361 or visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au

13.01.2022 Key messaging for bushfire safety in SA given COVID restrictions From midnight tonight, a six-day initial stage of ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions will be implem...ented to protect the South Australian community from the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Review your Bushfire Survival Plan using the up-to-date advice on the SA Health website www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVID-19 UNDER LOCKDOWN During this initial restriction period, you can only leave your home for limited reasons. This includes during a bushfire emergency or if your home is unsafe. Some relocation destinations in Bushfire Safer Places will not be available due to these COVID-19 restrictions. - Cinemas and other public venues will be closed. - Visits to shopping centres are for essential food shopping only If you plan to stay with relatives or friends when you relocate to a Bushfire Safer Place, consider alternative arrangements if your plan is to stay with elderly relatives or immuno-compromised relatives or friends. This will reduce the risk of exposing vulnerable people to COVID-19. If you are in self-quarantine or self-isolation due to COVID-19, you can leave your home if you are in an emergency or your home is unsafe but try to get back into self-isolation as soon as you safely can. During an emergency, if you need to attend an emergency relief centre or a Bushfire Last Resort Refuge, you need to stay outside, alert emergency services (e.g. SAPOL, relief authorities at the location etc) and follow instructions. You must ensure you advise emergency services that you have been forced to leave self-quarantine or self-isolation due to the emergency and that: - you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case - you have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or if - you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or - you are in self-quarantine because you have recently returned from interstate. UNDER RESTRICTIONS State government restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Leaving early during COVID-19 will be a little different this summer. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, you can leave your home during an emergency or if your home is unsafe. Consider the following in your leave early plan to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19: During COVID-19 restrictions you may travel if you are doing so as part of your bushfire plan. If you are unwell or have symptoms, isolate yourself from others and ensure you always wear a face covering and get tested as soon as possible. Add to your 'Emergency Kit' - Additional face masks - Hand sanitiser - more than 60% alcohol - Antibacterial wipes Follow SA Health COVID-19 advice - Wear a face mask - Practise good hygiene. Wash or sanitise your hands when you enter someone else’s home, if possible - Do not shake hands, hug or kiss as a greeting - Maintain physical distancing, keep at least 1.5 metres away from others

06.01.2022 Good Morning Everyone! Just a quick morning warning.
06.01.2022 Just a quick letter from our boss.
05.01.2022 We rely on so many other volunteer organisations, who come together to provide support to communities and our firefighters during bushfire events. So, wed like... to give back, using Volunteer Week as an opportunity highlight and thank those who give up their time, to help our CFS volunteers. As our firefighters finished longs shifts on fire grounds this past summer, they were greeted with smiling faces and delicious food catered by the Salvation Army's Emergency Services Team. During the Fire Danger Season they provided over 28,000 meals to our personnel and fire affected communities. We know the Salvos are still present across many of Australias fire affected communities, locally providing long-term outreach support on Kangaroo Island. The Salvation Army has also risen to the new challenge of COVID-19, offering financial counselling and immediate relief options for those who have lost their jobs and livelihoods due to the pandemic. This year, they are moving their annual Red Shield Appeal online, as they find ways to connect with communities in need, in a new physical distancing environment. To the Salvation Army volunteers we offer a massive thanks for the great food and support you provide our personnel. #ColouryourCommunityRed #SAVolunteer #NVW2020 #NationalVolunteerWeek #morethanabushfireservice #thankgodforthesalvos

03.01.2022 Today we farewell a Firefighter. Verdun Elix was a life member of the Nuriootpa CFS, Verdun joined the brigade in December 1954, as is the way he went straight into work, battling a blaze in the Kalima Area around Nuriootpa in early January of 1955. When the fight was done the then Captain Harry Gladigau presented a very proud Verdun with his membership badge. Verdun was at the forefront of Road Crash Rescue, and was chosen by the (then EFS) headquarters to completed a 3 week... course in Victoria, returning to the brigade and leading us down the path towards one of our current skills, he along with fellow member's set about building the brigades first rescue vehicle. Verdun is remembered for his keen participation and leadership through competitions & as a deputy the Captain Les Hampel. Verdun retired after 33 years of service, and was awarded Life Membership of the Brigade in 1979. We send our condolences to Marion & his entire Family. Rest in Peace Verdun & Thankyou for your Service & Support of not only the Nuriootpa CFS But the entire community. (Thanks to Tony Wege for the History)
