22.01.2022 Respect your elders? A take on those faced with narcissistic people in their life... We have often spoken of how narcissists twist everything for their own manipulative purposes. They take concepts which are at heart a good idea, and misuse them to keep us under their thumb. The trouble is, that it all sounds so plausible - exactly because the original concept is a good one - and so it's very hard to see the truth of it. We spoke of this before under "The Two-Biscuit Fallacy...Continue reading

20.01.2022 This week is the International Week of the Deaf and today is the International Day of Sign Language. The rights of Deaf people are human rights and Deaf culture... and language must be celebrated and supported! There is so much work still to do in this space but working together with deaf people, we can create an inclusive society for everyone. The Greens are working on a plan to incentivise more people to become interpreters and provide greater resources for training to ensure that deaf and hard of hearing Australians are able to fully participate in society. 19.01.2022 SuperAspieFuturistic Review by Morris Berg August 26, 2020 This is a darkly funny, satirical novel of a POTUS who out-eejits the most idiotic holders of the office. Various imaginary and real enemies are out to wreak havoc, including a neurodiversely supremacist collective and their rivals the Aspie Brotherhood. The sinister Psy-Corps lurks in the background. And the President wants a ride to Mars where he will wear his red shoes ... To find out the fate of the world and how Big Man’s actions and their reverberations transform everything that we thought we knew was real, read this book. It deserves to be a bigger hit than The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Fans of Terry Pratchett will adore it. And at last it gives autistic people the recognition they deserve, which won’t please everybody but will make those on the spectrum feel warm and fuzzy. Anyone who loves a humorous fantasy yarn will enjoy it too. But as the saying goes, many a true word is spoken in jest, so how prophetic this book is won’t be known until the University of Mars (Faculty of Earth Studies, Hellas Planitia campus) places it on their 2080 English syllabus, perhaps along with Orwell.

18.01.2022 Let’s talk about bullying. Bullying in the moment is difficult to address. Bullies in one situation are often bullied in another. Sometimes people aren’t aware... of their own role in participating in bullying. Whenever someone attempts to stop bullying by punishing the bully, this gesture usually backfires. It often leads to more bullying, sometimes from the authority figure trying to intervene, and sometimes in the form of retaliation. The most effective way to stop bullying and the safest way for everyone is to change the culture. Big picture, Greater Good visionary change. In a culture of competition, bullying will always happen and will always be rewarded. In a culture of cooperation, wherein members of a social ecosystem look out for each other and value the success of each person, then bullying rarely happens. The reason that bullying campaigns fail is because bullying is only addressed after it’s happened. Bullying is too complicated and has too many layers of social consequence to address with any simple solution. Instead, we need to create a safer society with the shared values of tolerance, acceptance, support, and interdependence. These gestures are small ways to make a collective large change. This is a challenge with no hashtags. Just examine your interactions and reflect, consider if your actions have caused undue harm to someone/people who didn’t have due process to defend themselves. We want people to grow, and that will never happen if we block their Light. Be the light and not the shade.
