22.01.2022 Going on the low FODMAP diet to help your IBS? While a low FODMAP diet eliminates some fruits and vegetables, it is still important to include as much of the ‘allowed’ fruit and vegetables, so you are getting adequate nutrients and fibre from your diet. Here are some of the fruits you can still have on the low FODMAP diet, and some to avoid. It is also important to remember the low FODMAP diet is a three phase diet: elimination, challenge and integration. It is necessary... to do all three phases of the diet, so you are identifying what ARE your triggers and what are NOT. Generally, we expect people only to be on the elimination diet for 4-6 weeks before beginning the challenge phase. An extra bonus is that often people with IBS also struggle with anxiety and depression, this is because the two are linked. So getting on top of your IBS will also help your anxiety and depression. Need some support a guidance with your IBS and low FODMAP diet? I work with clients everyday in helping them with IBS and have seen many people have a great reduction in their symptoms. 10.01.2022 People with anxiety and depression have an increased likelihood of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a condition characterised by abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. Research into IBS and mental health in 2019, found individuals who had IBS were 3 times more likely to have anxiety and depression. It also identified that while all types of IBS had increased anxiety and depression, people with IBS-C (constipation predominant IBS) were more likely to experienc...e symptoms of anxiety and depression. Another study also undertaken in 2019, found that those with more severe psychological distress had more severe IBS symptoms. That with increased IBS and anxiety/depression symptoms came increased fatigue and decreased productivity. IBS symptoms greatly impact people’s quality of life. The good news is that lifestyle changes such as improving diet and exercise can improve both your IBS and anxiety/depression.
