25.01.2022 I am still perplexed at the number of coffee/tea/mocha drinkers who haven't lifted their eco-game & still use single-use takeaway cups. Those who sit in the cafe & still order in a takeaway cup... 21.01.2022 Home made beef jerky anyone? This Autoimmune Paleo (AIP) Diet I have to follow is really restricted. And before you think it's a fad... it's actually one of my last options to get my Hashimoto’s under control. There are essentially no options for protein apart from meat, chicken & fish in the AIP. Which for me, is pretty challenging. Especially when you need protein in every meal... including breakfast. ... Yep, meat for breakfast for me. No eggs, no legumes, no nuts, no grains, no protein powder, no tofu, no dairy, no seeds. So, I've made jerky in my Luvele dehydrator. I love it. It's protein. It's 100% natural, chemical/ additive/preservative/sugar free & it means I'm getting enough protein It's actually perfect for breakfast, travel, snacks... anytime. Beef. Lime. Garlic. Ginger. 20.01.2022 Short on time & need work lunch sorted a few days in advance? Have I got the recipe for you! Roast, blitz, eat. This recipe is that simple Why should you eat sweet spuds Well, sweet potatoes are super high in the precursor of vitamin A, beta-carotene, & potassium. They also provide some calcium, iron, magnesium, folate & fibre. ... Beta-carotene is a potent antioxidant so if you have a dodgy thyroid, like me, then your thyroid will love sweet spuds. Vitamin A is important for healthy vision, strong immune system & development of unborn bubs. You'll need: 1 tbsp coconut oil 1 large onion, slice it 2 stalks celery, chop it 2 cloves garlic, mince 'em 3 large sweet potatoes, baked then chopped 3 cups chicken bone broth Zest & juice of 1 lime 1/2 tsp turmeric Sea salt to taste Swirl of coconut cream or coconut yogurt (opt) What you need to do: Cook onion through in coconut oil until then translucent, then add garlic, celery, turmeric. Cook for a further 2-3 minutes. Add sweet potatoes, bone broth & lime zest + juice, simmer. Blitz. Glam it up with a swirl of coconut cream or coconut yogurt if you're feeling fancy. Recipe works perfectly in the thermomix .... & that means way less washing up. Perfect! Freezes well. Portions well. Tastes divine. Lunches Sorted See more

19.01.2022 Look & learn Women experience breast pain for many different reasons. We frequently ignore it. Maybe we ignore it because it's 'normal' in our cycles.... Maybe we ignore it because we think it's nothing. Maybe we ignore it so as to not make a fuss. Maybe we ignore it because we're scared. Ignoring breast pain can be dangerous. And in this case, life-threatening. Heart disease kills six times more women than all cancers combined each year. Symptoms of heart attack in women can be different to men. Rather than the classic chest pain men often feel, women may feel breathless & have nausea, back pain, tightness or discomfort in the arms & a general feeling of being unwell. Not only will the real thing be lower in salt, sugar, added colours, flavours & preservatives (or without these things altogether) they will be cheaper, fresher & create WAY more servings. 06.01.2022 Sometimes your body lets you down But at least you can have Avocado Alfredo with Zucchini Noodles Over 10 years ago I was diagnosed with a very erratic Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called Hashimoto’s. It’s had the healing hands of many natural health practitioners, including my own, try to tame its wild ways But, sometimes it goes haywire. Like right now ... My thyroid does NOT like stress. A flare up like this is a red flag for me to chill the heck out & bring my diet all the way back to basics the Autoimmune Paleo Diet. A LOT of restrictions So I'm nourishing my thyroid, reducing all stress & making my tastebuds happy Tonight Avocado Alfredo with Zucchini Noodles was a star A serving for two: Noodle up a large zucchini with a spiraliser or julienne peeler. Blitz 1 ripe avocado, 1 handful fresh basil, 1tsp onion powder or garlic powder, 3-4tbsp lemon juice, 1tbs nutritional yeast, 1tsp turmeric, 1 small handful fresh oregano or thyme & salt to taste. Pour avocado saucy-ness over zucchini noodles. Noodles can be VERY lightly warmed with maximum of 30sec in the microwave to make it easier to stir through the sauce. I served this with chicken breast cooked with olive oil & lots of turmeric to ensure adequate protein. OMG, deluxe! I'll be making this again. Do you have to restrict your diet sometimes to manage your symptoms?
05.01.2022 Got "glutened" Oh no For those who know they respond really badly to gluten, getting "glutened" is more than horrible. BUT.... some amazing tips from Dr. Jolene Brighten save the day . Woohoo!... What is getting "glutened" It's when someone who knows they have an intolerance or reaction to gluten inadvertently eats food containing gluten. What happens to them The response can vary from person to person. They might have a sore & bloated stomach, feel sick or nauseous, they might get a bit farty , loose bowls, headache, sore joints & more.
