24.01.2022 How many have I heard from PCOS ladies that they are finding it hard to lose weight? Well all the time It's true it is harder to lose weight but not impossible! And please don't blame yourself!... Your body is in a fat storage Mode 1) Insulin in normal situations is the hormone/key that is responsible to transport glucose from bloodstream to cells. In PCOS your body could be resistant to insulin thus there would be accumulation of insulin and this would lead to fat storage/weight gain and mostly in the midsection! That's why you have cravings, you are hungry just an hour after finishing your meal. High levels of insulin simply increase your appetite 2) Blame androgens high levels in testosterone levels the male hormones also turn you into a fat storage mode and also lead to high levels of insulin It's more like a cycle. Is it then impossible to lose weight?? Ofcourse not! You need to modify your lifestyle concentrate on having complete meals balanced between carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats and veggies. Focus on low Glycemic index carbohydrates that won't cause a spike in sugar level. The quantity of low glycemic index carbs is also. Important or what is known as glycemic load. Better sleep, be active! If you are lost I would be glad to help you out and teach you choose the right food and follow the right path because losing weight is never impossible with PCOS you just need the right approach
23.01.2022 I have seen alot of my clients fearing to have fats or not taking the correct amount of fat. Healthy fats mainly plant based fat are very essential not only for good health but it is VERY important for fertility, ovulation and hormone functioning Infertility rates are increasing lately due to several factors such as environmental, stress..... However our diet and food choices are of high importance. Fats have important work to do for example omega 3 support ovulation, sperm production and blood flow to reproductive organs. They are great anti inflammatories that help fight inflammation that plays a big role in fertility. Where to find healthy fats? fatty fish such as salmon, Tuna, nuts and seeds, avocado, eggs, extra virgin olive oil, seeds such as sunflower seeds, hemp, chia. One study have showed that having a certain quantity of monounsaturated fats in the form of avocado during IVF cycle increased the success rate by 3.5times However not all fats are healthy. Stay away from saturated fat and trans fat. Trans fat is highly linked to cause ovulatory dysfunction and poor hormone imbalance. A study at Harvard showed those women who consumed trans fat regularly were 70% less likely to conceive. Trans fat are in commercially baked goods, fast food, those containing palm oil, hydrogenated oil Wondering what are the fats that you should be having and the right quantity work with me I would be glad to help you

20.01.2022 Let's Talk Salt! Himalayan, pink, sea salt, table salt.. Lost right? Well read this and you decide... To start with it is always better to flavor your meals and food with herbs and spices especially if you have health problems such as hypertention Then NO Himalayan /pink salt is not a healthier option than Table Salt We have always heard that Himalayan salt is richer in nutrients than regular salt. However just recently researchers at Nutrition Research Australia tested different pink Salt products and the results are: Pink salt may contain more nutrients than other salt but you really need to eat five times more than your daily reccomended intake to benefit from that and on top of that they found out that Pink salt contains HARMFUL metals lead and aluminium I always advise my clients to use the regular table salt at least it is iodised and is essential for normal thyroid function, brain function and development of intellectual abilities. .. So what salt do you use?
19.01.2022 Hey PCOS friends, make sure to add some cinnamon to your oats after reading this post. Why? Read the below. Studies have shown that cinnamon: 1) Decrease insulin resistanceMost women with PCOS suffer from insulin resistance which makes it harder to lose weight. A study on women has shown those taking cinnamon supplements had a decrease in Insulin resistance.... 2) Restore and regulate menstrual cycle(more regular periods) . The study has shown a significant decrease in serum level of testosterone the male hormone. High levels of testosterone leads to irregular periods. 3)Cinnamon also being a great antioxidant and anti inflammatory has shown to decrease the LDL the bad cholesterol and increase HDL the good cholesterol. Many women with PCOS suffer from dislipedmia thus cinnamon can help to regulate cholesterol levels. Note there is no one approach that works for all. Managing PCOS is highly individualised. Let's work together and I would be glad to help you. Book online(link in Bio) or call the clinic to book a face to face appointment. 12.01.2022 So where do you store your oil? Quick tips for a Sunday You may get the best oil, however make sure to store it in a dark place and away from heat .... Do not over stock oil because it is best to use it within a year from purchase #oil #EVOO #diet #fitness #dietitiansofinstagram #dietitianblogger #dietitiansofig #dietitianandnutritionist #instahealth #dietitianmelbourne #melbournedietitian #tagyourfriend #onlinedietitian #dietitianonline #onlineconsultation #virtualdietitian #sydneydietitian #perthdietitian #follow #eatsmart #eatforwellness #shoppingtip #lebaneseaustralian
11.01.2022 No doubt dried fruits are healthy and rich in fiber and antioxidants. However be aware that they are high in sugar if we compare a serving of fresh fruit compared to the same serving dried. Why? ... Dried fruits are made by removing almost all the water content of the fruit. The fruit shrinks during the drying process and becomes concentrated in energy and sugar. Bottomline: you can enjoy dried fruits especially that they help in digestion, high in fiber and antioxidants however stick to the serving portion. #fruits #driedfruits #health #fitness #dietitianblogger #melbournedietitian #dietitianmelbourne #dietitiansydney #sydneydietitian #onlinedietitian #dietitianonline #virtualdietitian #onlineconsultation #lebanesedietitian #lebanesedietitian #lebaneseinaustralia #lebanesemelbourne #lebanesesydney
11.01.2022 I get asked alot from friends, family and clients what is the best oil Choosing the best oil is highly related to the smoking point/cooking method. So what is the smoking point.. It is the burning point at which oil starts releasing chemicals, free radicals that are harmful to health.... A general advise i can give myself when dealing with high heat oils try to heat the pan first, then add the oil and then the ingredients. Same type of oil can be cold pressed such as Extravirgin olive oil or refined such as refined olive oil. Cold pressed is the best method for maintaining the health benefits of oil. Cold pressing is a process in which the oil was not exposed to high heat thus ensuring it's maximum quality such as extravirgin olive oil(EVOO) or cold pressed canola oil. The oil that i prefer and advise of is Extra Virgin Olive oil EVOO being unrefined and cold pressed and abundant in antioxidand and monounsaturated fat. Studies have shown the benefits of EVOO on reducing cardiovascular diseases and stroke.smoking point is 200degrees i use it in sautéing, stirfryingand salad dressing Avocado oil if refined can handle very high temperature so it would be good for roasting and frying. Avocado oil has a mild flavour so some may dislike it. It is also more expensive than other oils. Avocado oil has one of the highest monounsaturated healthy fats. The cold pressed version of Avocado oil can be used as Extra virgin olive oil for temperature not exceeding 200degrees Celsius and cold on salad. Flaxseed in oil in summary very healthy but not used for cooking and need to be stored in fridge. Canola oil is the best for high cooking temperature and for all cooking methods .It is low in saturated fat(unhealthy fat) and relatively high monounsaturated fat the healthy fat. That's why most people use it. It is also budget friendly that's why most people choose it. The only drawback that it is very highly refined that's why i reccomend you choose a good quality brand and cold pressed is a better option. Coconut oil is 90% saturated fat unhealthy fat that's why it's solid at room temp. Some people like its flavour. It goes well in baking. Avoid or moderate use See more
10.01.2022 That's me yesterday jumping for joy finally my preregnancy pants fits in. It was my goal. 10.01.2022 Why do we gain 1 to 2kgs overnight? 09.01.2022 Always doing my best to help you read claims and Nutrition panel. Some products may mention they contain whole grains as in this post. However this does not mean it is healthy or it is all based on wholegrains If we read the ingredients then you will see the first ingredient (it is the ingredient that what is actually what this product is made up of the most is wheat flour) and whole grain is only 18%.... On top of that it does contain sugar and vegetable oils which we are not fan of. I don't know why they refer to it as Breakfast but it is not what a breakfast should be like. #biscuit #sugar #snack #dietitiansofinstagram #eatsmart #eatforwellness #lebaneseaustralian #lebaneseinmelbourne #lebaneseinsydney #lebaneseinaustralia #dietitiansofinstagram#dietitianblogger #melbournedietitian #perthdietitian #sydneydietitian #brisbane #sydney #onlinedietitian #dietitianonline #_ # # ##_
05.01.2022 I still remember very well my mom's face reaction when the doctor told her "your daughter has PCOS!". I was a teenager by then. It was like the end of the world to her. The whole scenario is saved in my memory no joke but I even remember the outfit i was wearingI'm not sure if that's a women thing or it is the incident and shock itself Anyhow My mom's response was like "Are you sure? Call another doctor you could be wrong! "... I really thought that I was being diagnosed with a deadly disease!! She didn't know by then that her daughter will be a dietitian and will help herself This week is women's health week. Thus I decided I would highlight on PCOS being having great interest in it. Ever since I became a dietitian and a woman living with PCOS my interest in this field grew immensely and I have the greatest joy helping women with PCOS as i have helped myself. Many women of childbearing age are diagnosed with PCOS. It could be like 1 in 8 women.Actually it is thought to be the most common endocrine disorder in women No a women with PCOS does not mean she cannot get pregnant!! I have 2 precious girls myself In most cases women with PCOS may be overweight and losing 10% of body weight help in managing and controlling hormones Sometimes and not always the case, PCOS is linked with insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance and dyslipidemia. A special diet and eating pattern helps in increasing insulin sensitivity and enhancing lipid profile. Lifestyle modification based on healthy and balanced diet and introducing physical activity into your routine can improve symptoms greatly. PCOS symptoms could vary from irregular menstrual cycles, amenorrhea, facial hair or body growth hair, acne, scalp hair loss, mood changes, obesity, sleep apnoea. Are you diagnosed with PCOS? Work with me and I am sure I can help you as I have helped myself and many others all these 10 years
04.01.2022 Hello Everyone I'm not sure if it is daughters National Day but let's celebrate it anyways That's me and my daughter leila making Sfouf or what she refers to as Yellow Cake ... Tumeric is the secret ingredient for this cake and gives it its yellow color. I always advise to use tumeric as much as possible in your meals. It is anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants and help in preventing cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, arthritis and depression. Recipe: 3 cups whole meal flour 3/4 cup maple syrup or 1 cup raw sugar 1 tablespoon Tumeric 1.5 teaspoon baking powder 4 tablespoon of liquid milk 1/4 cup of oil I mix dry ingredients first then add oil mix then add some water to make a paste. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees with fan and put for 35min. I cut the cake into 15 pcs and each has 188kcal(using raw sugar) or 150kcal(using maple syrup) What's your favourite cake? . . . . / /4 . . . . #goodafternoon #sweet #healthysweet #fitness #dietitiansofinstagram #dietitianblogger #dietitiansofig #dietitianandnutritionist#instahealth #onlinedietitian #dietitianonline #virtualdietitian #Australia #melbourne #sydney #perth #doha #qatar #beirut #lebanon #dietitianmelbourne # # # ##_
04.01.2022 Although I always prefer nuts, dark chocolate, fruits etc for snacks but sometimes protein bars can be easy to take. And for those who take protein bars as meal replacement don't take it as a habbit you need real food for actual nutrition. But if you are looking for protein bars I would recommend to choose calories of maximum 200kcal and less is even better if you are trying to lose weight ... Sugar less than 5g per serving and protein less than 15g. Go for whole food ingredients for higher fiber and the shorter the list the better the less processed. #proteinbars #diet #protein #muscles #nutrition #nutritionist #dietitiansofinstagram #dietitianblogger #dietitian #dietitianandnutritionist #instahealth #instapic #livewell #onlineconsultation #onlinedietitian #dietitianonline #followback #melbourne #sydney #Australia #weightloss #Weightmanagement #virtualdietitian #lebaneseaustralian #lebaneseinmelbourne #iraq #iraqinaustralia #doha #qatar
01.01.2022 Photo shared under approval of her mom I had a very lovely client today Jana, 8 years old, I was so happy to see her Her mom was concerned about her eating habits and weight and Jana was so excited to see a dietitian.... I love it when I work with kids because we focus on changing the lifestyle and eating habits and not just a plan. I have checked Jana's weight and height on the growth chart to decide on the approach needed. Jana loves jam with butter and toast so much and she has it more than once a day. Therefore I discussed with the mother to choose a non sugar based Jam and limit it to once a day and replace the butter we cheese. She loves chocolate and who doesn't . Therefore me and Jana agreed on having it once a day and preferably everyother day. Ideally it should be once a week but we can't do that at this point with Jana because she used to have alot during the day. I discussed with the mother on shifting to low fat dairies because after the age of 2 it is recommended to have low fat dairies We discussed having different colors of fruits and vegetables and I gave her a rainbow sheet so she can color her rainbow fruits as a reminder. Physical activity is very important at this age. Make sure kids like Jana enjoy different activities each day I was so happy to meet you Jana God bless you
