10.01.2022 We like to solve problems for local landholders in their path to managing problem weeds. As a result, we team up with companies that strive to do the same. Granular Products is one such company, who strives to find solutions to controlling some of our greatest problem weeds. This Australian owned company has recognised the importance of the Central Queensland beef industry to their business, and has made the investment of building their manufacturing and processing facility here in Rockhampton. When you purchase either their Regain 200, Regain 400 or GP Flupropante, you are not only supporting an Australian business, you are supporting a Rockhampton business. Our experienced staff are here to assist you in your quest to weed free paddocks.

07.01.2022 With the mornings cooling off, and a change in grass colour and its relative indication of protein diminishing in the pastures, now is the perfect time to put in place a nutritional program to best prepare your livestock heading into the cooler months. FeedPro Australia provides a range of nutritional solutions available from us here at Northern Agri Services including protein meal loose licks & stock feed rations.

06.01.2022 A study conducted by Zoetis in conjunction with Darren Cunningham from Nutrien Ag Solutions on a local Morinish property was published in the Australia Veterinary Journal last year by Lee Taylor. This study looked at the effects of a single treatment of Dectomax injectable given to weaned beef calves. Some key points to note in this study are: The worm burdens in these studies was considerably lower than that what can be seen in the area. (The highest average at Day 0 was 3...96 epg). Rainfall during the trials was below historical averages. Treated cattle were up to 9kg heavier 3 months after weaning. The Cattle enrolled in the study had a high Bos indicus content, known for their resistance to internal & external parasites. There is a move toward more flatback cattle in the CQ area and these would be expected to be more susceptible to worms. Treated and control cattle were run together as one group throughout the study to avoid paddock effects. The untreated cattle could have benefited from less larval contamination and the treated cattle were challenged by extra pasture contamination from untreated control cattle this would have very likely reduced the difference in growth rate between the Dectomax and control groups. The ROI could be simply analysed using these assumptions: Difference between control & treated groups (from trial data): 9kg/hd Lwt Liveweight sale price: $3.00 /kg Average weight of Weaners: 180kg Dectomax injection Cost : $0.44/ml ($220/500ml)* 4ml/hd (1ml/50kg)= $1.76/hd Extra profit treated group: 9kg*$3.00 = $27/hd $1.76/hd = $25.24/hd It is highly likely given the key points above, that the difference in profitability in many situations would be greater than this. 04.01.2022 There has been many strange things happening with our pastures this year! Pasture Die-Back is still present in pasture systems! Armyworms have been chewing on pastures on the flood plains! And now in the past week a phenomena called Buffel Blight has been impacting many stands of Buffel Grass (USA, Gayndah & Biloela). It has been a results of perfect weather conditions, plants under stress from lack of moisture and cultivars that do not having any resistance. The result is accelerated haying off of your pastures, leaf drop and in some instance plant death. If you observe this in your pastures, feel free to contact our agronomist who can provide you with some practical advise.
