13.01.2022 MILING FARMER AWARDED OAM Miling farmer Malcolm Seymour has been recognised in the 2020 Queens Birthday honours for a lifetime of services to agriculture ... ...he has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the general division. Malcolm has spent his years growing grain and pastures, breeding horses, dogs and sheep, and has also travelled the country judging meat and sheep. He said one of his proudest achievements was working with the WA Meat Industry Authority to successfully lobby government to support relocating the Midland Saleyards to Muchea. "The budget was $54.5 million, thats what we brought in at," he said. "It was one of the few government projects thats actually come in on budget, and because it was Eastern States money that came into the state that built it (from selling Midland land) it meant that we didnt take from any other project that the government had planned, and we didnt add to the state debit." The Muchea Livestock Centre officially opened in May 2010. Malcolm is 86 and he spends his time between Perth and the farm and keeps busy with his working dogs.
