25.01.2022 MORE HELP FLYING IN If you're near Geraldton you may have spotted this big bird flying in with equipment on board to assist with the clean up from TC Seroja.... It's the largest aircraft in Australia’s Defence fleet. The Department of Defence says it's proud to support the recovery efforts being led by Western Australia’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services. "Today, we transported five Victoria State Emergency Service vehicles from Melbourne to Geraldton on one of our C-17A Globemasters. "The specialist vehicles including two trucks, and three four wheel drives will assist SES ground forces in their clean-up and recovery efforts in WA." About 500 SES staff and volunteers are on the ground with locals being supported by teams from Perth, NSW and Victoria. So far they've received about 720 requests for assistance with 270 still open. 15.01.2022 Less than a week ago TC Seroja cut a devastating path across our vast State. Communities that may have never experienced this type of extreme weather such as Ga...bbin, Perenjori, Carnamah, Morowa, Koorda, Mukinbudin and Bencubbin have suffered structural damage, missing roofs, destroyed sheds and fallen trees. The Bureau of Meteorology said Seroja was remarkable as the system produced a severe impact in a region where the threat of cyclonic weather is rare. The severity of the system (Category 3) combined with the Fujiwhara Effect (two tropical cyclones interacting with each other) saw TC Seroja impact further south, and with more force than is usually experienced in those regions. DFES teams of SES, Urban Search and Rescue, Rapid Damage Assessment personnel, firefighters and Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia personnel have been joined by 67 Defence Australia personnel and SES strike teams from Victoria and New South Wales. With over 850 damaged buildings and 32 buildings confirmed destroyed, additional help is flying in this weekend from Victoria State Emergency Service, NSW SES and SA State Emergency Service.
