17.01.2022 Does your Gym force you into a membership contract? Usually this binding contract is for a 12 month period, with many onerous conditions included to keep the f...unds flowing from your bank account. Of course, these contracts benefit the gym operator - not the member, as most new customers drop out from regular attendance within the first 4 weeks. This is expected by the gym operator. If all new members kept visiting 2 - 3 times per week for 12 months, there would not be enough space and hence equipment to cater for everyone. Once you're locked in, there really is no incentive on behalf of the Gym to KEEP you coming back. The non-contract Gym operators are by definition, more customer friendly, however they live or die through retention. Theoretically, these facilities must offer a higher level of service and effective programming to retain the monthly dues. Strangely, this is often not the case, with some large 24 hour chains such as Plus Fitness, offering a no better customer experience than the contract only facilities such as Anytime Fitness. From my observation, the level of service and support varies club by club as they are franchised and the operational talent of the franchisees and their employed staff and contractors similarly varies.
