23.01.2022 Did you know that it is important to look for an accredited practitioner to make sure you are getting someone who 1. Must adhere to a code of practice 2. Has to have been properly trained 3. Must stay up to date with their training and 4. Complete regular training to keep their competency ?... #accreditedpractitioner #atms #naturalmedicine #nutrition #foodismedicine See more

22.01.2022 AS 2019 closes and a new decade begins tomorrow, don't make resolutions you know you can't keep. Don't start a new diet. Don't say you're not going to eat junk food. Don't say I'm never eating chocolate again (that would be crazy!) Depriving yourself of your favourite treats can sometimes just make you want it more! Every journey starts with one small step so if you only manage to walk 10 minutes on the first day, don't be disheartened it's better than doing nothing, keep ...going and gradually build up to 30 minutes a day. If you like to have a beer or a wine, save it for the weekend and really enjoy a glass or two. If you manage to eat a variety of foods and always have a colourful plate that's fantastic! Why not make a resolution to try a different fruit or vegetable each week, pick one and find a recipe to use it in - show me the pics I'd love to see them. Happy New Year to all may 2020 be happy and healthy and the year you reach your health goals. See more

21.01.2022 I love blueberries and they are so good for you. Blueberries contain Anthocyanins, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. According to researchers anthocyanins have been associated with increased neuronal signalling in the memory centres of the brain, this is important as it may reduce neurodegeneration in the brain. It will be interesting to see if this can be used for early onset dementia or short term memory loss in older adults. #justeatrealfood #nutritionist

18.01.2022 Zinc is not something that most people think about when it comes to diet and nutrition but it is a really important nutrient. Zinc plays a role in over 300 enzymatic reactions in our body. It also has a fundamental role in immunity due to it’s anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties

12.01.2022 Looking for an alternative to regular tea and coffee? Have you tried herbal tea? Herbal teas taste great hot or cold, they also contain lots of nutritional benefits and are a great way to keep you hydrated. There are so many to choose from here are a few to try:... Passionflower tea contains flavonoids which act as antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. Peppermint tea contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C and folate Chamomile tea contains antioxidants and flavonoids Dandelion tea contains magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron in small amounts as well as flavonoids and sterols. Lemon, ginger & honey tea (my favourite!) ginger is fantastic for nausea, and has antiinflammatory properties and is good for immunity, lemon is high in vitamin C and contains folate and potassium, and honey (especially Manuka) is naturally antibacterial and microbial and also contains small amounts of several vitamins and minerals Why not try one today, let me know your favourites. **Please note some herbal teas should not be taken whilst pregnant and some may interact with medications, please check with your health professional first.** #nutritionist #nutrition #tea #hydration #justeatrealfood #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #foodismedicine #teabreak #tealovers #foodlover

05.01.2022 Have you had your daily dose of Vitamin D? Living in the lower half of Australia means that we do not get as many hours of sunshine as our Northern states, especially in winter. Vitamin D or specifically D3 is produced when we have direct sun exposure on our skin. Vitamin D is important for bone growth and maintaining calcium levels throughout our body, and it is also thought to enhance our immune function. Some studies also suggest that Vitamin D deficiency may play a ro...le in autoimmune disease. So how do you get Vitamin D? 5 minutes of sun exposure on bare skin, face, arms, hands, per day is enough to keep you topped up. Of course you should do this during the early morning or late evening when UV levels are lower, and if you are in the sun for longer remember to Slip, Slop, slap and slide. Nutritionally Vitamin D is available in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and herring, milk, eggs and meat. Mushrooms are also a good source if you are vegetarian. #nutritionist #nutrition #healthyliving #justeatrealfood #warragulwellnesscentre #nourishnaturalhealth #wellbeing #healthyliving #sunshine See more

04.01.2022 Multi tasking today, getting my hair done and doing some professional development. As natural health practitioners we are required to continue to develop our knowledge and skills every year at least 20 hours in fact. In reality its probably more than that, I am constantly researching and reading about food and nutrition, which isn't hard really when you are passionate about what you do #nutrition #nutritionist #bioconcepts #lovewhatyoudo #foodismedicine #atms #holistichealth #professionaldevelopment #lifelonglearning #foodieatheart
