17.01.2022 Are your kids getting their daily dose of vitamin D during the school holidays? Vitamin D is essential for keeping kids healthy. It builds their immune system so they are able to fight off nasty bugs and infections. It is important for growing bones and strong teeth. The best source of vitamin D is 15-20 minutes of sunshine on exposed skin each day. Make sure this sun exposure is during early mornings or late afternoons to avoid the harsh heat, risk of sunburn and developing... skin cancers. So encourage your kids to get outdoors, get active, have some fun and improve their health at the same time

17.01.2022 WATER IS OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE!! Our bodies are made up of 75% water and we are losing this all day through sweating, breathing and urination, so it is important that we are continuously re-hydrating throughout the day with good quality water. This is particularly important for active children. Signs that your child may be dehydrated include:... Lethargy Headaches Muscular aches and weakness Lack of focus and concentration Dark yellow urine Infrequent urination Ideally we all should be drinking 2-3 litres of water a day. This is best consumed in frequent small amounts for best absorption and hydration rather than big amounts less frequently. Tag someone you know that doesn't drink enough water! #childrenshealth #drinkwater #hydration

12.01.2022 Children learn by example. Check in with yourself. If you aren't eating a rainbow of different coloured vegetables everyday then chances are your children aren't either. By eating a rainbow a day we can make sure we are getting a variety of different nutrients to nourish our bodies and support the function of our organs.

11.01.2022 We teach children and adults about the importance of different nutrients for the immune system. A clear way of understanding the immune system is that our BODY is a castle and our IMMUNE SYSTEM is the soldiers fighting to protect the castle from invasion. Different invaders can include bacteria, viruses, and parasites. When our bodies defences aren't strong enough to fight off the invaders, this is when we can get sick and feel unwell. Some nutrients that support our immune... system (our soldiers) are Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc. These nutrients can be found in a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seeds, and the sun! Keeping hydrated and drinking plenty of good quality water is another way to help support our immune system. Water helps our soldiers to flush out the invaders, that may get within the castle walls. In these troublesome times, please teach your family and friends about the importance of eating healthy foods, in order to protect and nourish our bodies.

11.01.2022 Can anyone tell me the benefits of eating enough vitamin A rich foods for our body?

11.01.2022 Lunchbox lunacy!!! Does preparing school lunchboxes drive you crazy?? Are you constantly stuck for ideas on creating a healthy lunch that your kids will actually eat?... Here are some ideas to kick start the new year and support healthy eating habits! Include a rainbow of colours in the lunchbox to make it appealing - strawberries, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, cheese cubes, blueberries, watermelon and banana. Include some protein - boiled eggs, yogurt, mini quiches, home made chicken nuggets. Sandwiches and wraps filled with some salad (grated carrot, baby spinach, tomato, cucumber), cheese or other protein (egg, chicken). We recommend Bakers Delight Hi Fibre Low GI bread/bread rolls for the white bread only eaters as it is higher in fibre and lower in sugar than other brands. Easy nutritious snacks such as pretzels, popcorn, vege sticks, home made muffins, protein balls and a variety of chopped fruit. And remember to always pack a bottle of fresh filtered water each day to keep their bodies hydrated!!

11.01.2022 CHANGE IN SEASON IS HERE and with it allergies, cold and flu and of course the threatening corona virus. Vitamin C is responsible for vital roles in the immune system and helping to stop you from getting sick, it is also a well know antioxidant which protects the cells in your body from damage. Vitamin C is found in many fresh fruits and vegetables including oranges berries kiwi fruit tomatoes and broccoli ... We should all be aiming for 2 pieces of fruit a day and 5 vegetables Supplementation is recommended for people who are not getting their daily servings. Look for good quality brands from health food shops or pharmacies. Ask your local Nutritionist or Naturopath on supplement and dosage advise. Caution vitamin C can cause diarrhoea in large doses. #vitaminc #immunesupport #healtheducation #dailyservings #fruit #vegetables
