12.01.2022 Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune condition where your body has an abnormal response to gluten, a protein found in some foods. Eating gluten triggers antibodies that attack the lining of the small bowel. The damage to the bowel affects your ability to absorb nutrients and can sometimes (in extreme cases) lead to lymphatic cancer. The main symptoms of Coeliac Disease are diarrhoea, cramping and nausea.

09.01.2022 Probiotics are live microorganisms which produce a health benefit when administered in adequate amounts. Probiotics help to restore the balance of ‘good bacteria’ in the intestines and help maintain a healthy gut. They can help reduce bloating, flatulence, gas and discomfort caused by overgrowth of yeasts or ‘bad’ bacteria. They also produce specific fatty acids that feed the cells lining the gut keeping them healthy, and they help boost our immune function.

08.01.2022 Nutritional intervention for heart health & blood pressure target 3 main areas- weight control, dietary fats & cholesterol, and salt intake. Measures of blood lipids will guide what dietary changes are needed. It is common for clients to require modification in all 3 areas; therefore clients can expect to make a minimum of 2 or 3 consultations with the Dietitian. This will allow time to grasp the knowledge & skills for effective management of these conditions. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia and signs of heart disease affect one in every six people. There are many ways you can be proactive to help maintain your heart health.

04.01.2022 Some people are naturally slender due to genetics and are healthy, but for others being underweight may indicate that nutritional needs are not being met. To manage underweight will require increasing calorie intake to not only meet daily needs but to exceed daily requirements by a small amount on a daily basis. This can be very challenging for someone with minimal appetite. A variety of high protein & high energy foods are used as add-ins to the diet. Often nutritional supplements are required. 01.01.2022 A vegetarian diet can be unhealthy if it is not planned well. This is because some nutrients are only found in animal products & others are better absorbed from animal products. Also, many animal-free food items advertised to the health conscious buyer are high fat & high sugar processed foods. Processed items such as these are not an essential part of balanced vegetarian eating.
