24.01.2022 This sums it up!

22.01.2022 Leftovers are such a good addition to school lunch boxes and helps to cut down your workload. These chicken drumsticks are a great protein source and so so easy to make. I simply marinated these in the morning then whilst cooking dinner, I popped them in the oven. When it comes to daily eating of wholesome, nourishing food I'm all about simplicity. No Masterchef or Nigella action over here!

21.01.2022 Nourishing your child's gut microbiome with food // Foundations When it comes to health, it's important to get the foundations right in your child's diet before you look at zeroing into to particular ingredients and supplements. This is very true for gut health. For me, these foundations look like:... A varied, whole food diet Plenty of colour Seasonal ingredients Organic, where possible High intake of plant foods Unprocessed It sounds basic, but the diets of many children don't look like that. And it's a challenge if you have a fussy eater on your hands! So before you turn to a "superfood", expensive supplements or cutting whole food ingredients out of their diet look at how you can transform their diet to provide the foundations. Give me a like if you're ready for more specific food ideas!

19.01.2022 Hands up if you struggle to get leafy greens into your child's diet?

19.01.2022 Lunchboxes - who's packing them at the moment? It's our first week for round 2 of remote learning and I'm taking a break from lunchbox making. But for those who are still in the lunch making routine, I really encourage you to lighten the load by using left overs. Not only is it one less thing you need to make, it's lovely for kids to enjoy someone warm and nourishing for lunch especially on the chilly days.... Who loves a thermos and what's your favourite thing to put in?

19.01.2022 What does an unhealthy gut look like? There can be several factors negatively impacting your child's gut health and leading to a vast array of issues. 1. A lack of diversity in the bacteria populating the gut.... 2. Dysbiosis where there is an overgrowth of certain microbes which produce metabolites and cause inflammation. 4. Damage to the bacterial layer coating the digestive tract allowing invasion by anything foreign from environmental toxics to various bacteria, yeasts and parasites. 3. Leak gut where the villi is damaged and the tight junctions between the intestinal cells open up. These gaps allow food particles and foreign matter to pass through into the blood stream causing an inflammatory reaction. The symptoms of a compromised gut can include: GIT upset Cognitive impairment such as brain fog, poor memory etc Fatigue, depression, anxiety Joint pain Allergies Congestion, sinus infections, chronic ear infections Skin issues like dermatitis, acne, eczema Behavioural problems, Autism, ADHD Autoimmune disorders....the list goes on. 16.01.2022 OMG - melt! Anyone got any pooch and kids photos they'd love to share?

15.01.2022 So important to have this conversation, and even more in this current climate. Who's tuning in with me?

15.01.2022 I was so happy to share my interest in kids health with clinical nutritionist Belinda Martinella and host of the @needtoknownutritionpc podcast at the end of last year (yep, it's taking me some time to tell you about it!) On my episode, we had an in-depth chat about feeding your baby solids. This is such an exciting and daunting time for new parents and there is such a lot of conflicting info. I tried to clear things up, get straight to the point and help start your baby in ...the right direction. 11.01.2022 Top influential factors in your child’s gut development: INTRODUCTION OF FOOD & DIET // It’s not only your child’s diet that will affect their gut microbiome, but also the timing of solid food introduction. Timing:... Just like every other aspect of your child’s development, the digestive system needs to mature in order to be able to process and absorb nutrients. Introducing solids and certain foods too early can lead to gut lining irritation, inflammation and dysbiosis. It’s recommended you start introduction to solid foods from 6 months if your child has clear signs they are ready. Diet: Introducing certain foods early, particularly gluten and wheat-containing products (including baby rice cereals), can contribute to leaky gut and inflammation. Processed foods, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and additives also can aggravate the gut environment and disrupt the microbiome balance. A varied, whole-food diet rich in probiotic and prebiotic foods will have the most positive impact on your child’s gut microbiome. Was this new information to you? 11.01.2022 Salads! They've got to be one of the more difficult meals to encourage kids to eat. This is an example of a progression I suggest when working towards serving salads. This is step 2 after serving deconstructed salads in the middle of the table. It has only a few ingredients and no salad dressing other than a drizzle of lime infused olive oil (totally yum btw). There is one food my son loves (avo) and some he tolerates and one (red onion) that he despises raw. ... The ingredients are stacked on top rather than mixed in which gives him the opportunity to leave out a food he doesn't want to eat. Once we've mastered this step and tried difficult salad combos, it's time to gradually move onto mixed salads. Breaking meals down into smaller steps and encouraging independence can do wonders for helping to expand your child's diet and overcome fussy eating behaviour. #fussyeating #pickyeating #pickereater #picky #salad #nutritiontip #nutritonist #health #kidshealth #healthykids #kidsnutrition

10.01.2022 Hey local mummas! Good excuse to get moving and meet some other mums....

10.01.2022 Nourishing your child's gut microbiome with food // Diet is one of the best (and cheapest) ways you can support your child's gut microbiome. Not only are you able to expose your child through a variety of microbes in the food, but you're also going to be feeding the bacteria to ensure it thrives. On top of that, a gut-friendly diet is typically rich in macro and micronutrients that will help to support your child's overall growth and development.... Over the next few posts, I will look at the key foods to include in your child's diet as well as the foods to avoid.

10.01.2022 As some of you are aware, I practice out of the clinic Whole Body Health & Wellness in Geelong. Together with the osteopaths, we've created a space for mums to receive free guidance, support and advice from a range of practitioners, coaches and professionals around everything from baby and postnatal health to lifestyle, mental wellbeing and exercise. We have a great line up of guest speakers over the next couple of months so if you want to join the conversation and be part of a growing community, check out the group. I'd love to see you there!

07.01.2022 Amazing! Hopefully Australia will follow suit! Matt Hancock, the health secretary, said: I am determined to help parents, children and families in the UK make healthier choices about what they eat. We know children spend more time online. Parents want to be reassured they are not being exposed to adverts promoting unhealthy foods, which can affect habits for life.

07.01.2022 Eggs! They're my favourite food and nature's gift but they're not compatible with me right now according to my recent hair analysis. Thank goodness for chia seeds as these make a great replacement for eggs especially in baking. 1 tbsp of chia seeds + 2.5 tbsp of water = 1 egg. ... Simply mix the chia and water together and allow to sit for 4-5mins until its jelly-like. If the recipe calls for more than 3 egg and you're eliminating eggs due to an allergy, intolerance or incompatibility, unfortunately, its probably not the recipe for you. Want to know more about hair analysis, send me a DM x

04.01.2022 How good does this look?! It’s not often my son volunteers to make a component of dinner but tonight he wanted to make a salad with no assistance. I think he did a pretty good job! Don’t underestimate the power of cooking in front of and with your kids and serving whole food meals! Change may not happen overnight but eventually it will. #healthykids #kidscooking #kidsfood #fresh #fussyeaters #pickyeaters

03.01.2022 Like many kiddos, my son doesn’t really like lettuce on its own. He may even try pick it out of a salad if it’s easy to do so. But that doesn’t mean I stop offering it. The lettuce here probably won’t get eaten. But then again it might! He might take a bite or try wrap one of the meat balls in it. He might also try it and spit it out or throw it straight into the bin. Either way he’s been exposed to it. He’s seen it, possibly touched it and may have even tasted it. These are... all steps forward to eating lettuce without fear or complaint and learning to love it. #lunchbox #bentobox #planetbox #kidslunch #lunch #fussyeaters #pickyeaters #nutrition #kidshealth #healthykids

03.01.2022 Well Mr Wippy put a smile on our locked down faces

01.01.2022 Baking always makes things feel better. No doubt that's why there has been an increase in banana bread making during lockdown! My son calls these 'Legendary Cookies' and I can't argue. 1. They're a one-bowl, easy-to-make recipe. 2. You can swap out ingredients for what you have in your pantry at the time.... 3. They hit the sweet spot! Being nut-free, these also make a perfect lunchbox addition. You can also double the batch and freeze to keep on hand.

01.01.2022 Switching off // While enduring the restrictions our family have noticed an increase in screen usage whether that's during remote learning, working or simply binging on Netflix series. It's almost like we've spent so much time together, we're escaping into the world of the screens. ... However, we've now established we need 2 nights a week off screens. No phones, TV, computers or other devices. Tonights our first night and considering I'm feeling a little apprehensive this family rule is well overdue. So I'm switching off until the morning! See you on the flip side.
