20.01.2022 This Labor was purchased from France without wheels, Crankset or pedals. As I am a great fan of Major Taylor and have been trying to purchase one of each of the approximate 8 brands Major raced in his Professional career, I now have about 5, if you look around my collection you will see them. These Labor Truss bridge frame racers were based on the Iver Johnson truss frames, first made in the USA around 1900. It seems Labor copies the IJ design with a few changes, the rear st...ays on the Labor are very similar to BSA tubed & luged frame kits of the same era which were imported into France and used by several manufacturers. In the 1907 Labor catalogues they mention the strength of their frames and the D section tubing in their rear stays and front forks (they could be talking about BSA tubed frames, BSA didn’t start making their own frames until 1910) The Truss style frame was very popular in France due to Major Taylor’s success on an Iver Johnson raced on his first successful visit to France in 1902. MT was treated like royalty in France with none of the racism he endured in his home country. Labor made these frames until the late 1920s. They also had success on the road in the 1927 Tour de France with a 2nd placing by Maurice Dewaele of Belgium This French Racer is similar to the one raced by Major Taylor on his 1908 visit to France, Major retired in 1910 at age of 32.
