21.01.2022 The Battle of Stamford Bridge is said to have taken place on 25th September 1066, the battle symbolises the end of the Viking age. The English army led by King Harold Godwinson won the battle. King Harald Hardråde and the English king's brother Tostig Godwinson who led the Viking army, where both killed together with most of their army. The few survivors fled to Norway. King Harold Godwinson didn’t have much time to enjoy the victory as he was killed few weeks after at the ba...ttle of Hastings. Harald, of course, had an illustrious career in the Varangian Guard. He even had a Byzantine armour that he nicknamed 'Emma'. Before becoming king, Harald had spent around fifteen years in exile as a mercenary and military commander in Kievan Rus' and of the Varangian Guard in the Byzantine Empire. Following the campaign against the Bulgarians, in which Harald again served with distinction, he received the rank while at Mosynopolis of spatharokandidatos. See more

17.01.2022 New and exciting reconstruction of the famous Gokstad purse/wallet by David Stíbrný. " For your assessment I present an article that calls into question the reading of one of the established items, reconstructed worldwide - Wallets from Gokstad. In the article we suggest that the original wallet did not have a cuff and was intended for folding. I have seen this findings at least a hundred times until the time of writing and I have never been blinded by fundamental irregularities in shape, size and construction. It certainly makes sense to view old objects with new, unbiased eyes."

08.01.2022 The Byzantine advance guard managed to squeeze through slopes which were not yet taken by the Bulgarian attackers. The rest of the army was surrounded by the Bulgarians. Only the elite Varangian Guard managed to break out with heavy casualties and to lead their Emperor to safety through secondary routes. Many Byzantine soldiers perished in the battle. The rest were captured along with the Imperial insignia.

02.01.2022 Awesome page upgrade from David and one of the best information pages on the Interwebs ..... "I would like to present you the result of a long process - a new look of the website https://sagy.vikingove.cz/ The old look existed for 6 long years, but it was not very representative compared to the content of the site. My professionalisation allowed me to develop the new look that took several months. At this point, I would like to hugely thank the graphic designer Tomáš Cajtha...ml who devoted an incredible amount of his time to the project. Changing the template for such a large website will never be error-free, so I'd like to ask you to report errors in images and text. I will be very grateful for every suggestion! I really hope you will enjoy the new look of the site"
