11.01.2022 To our basketball family, supporters, partners and other stakeholders After many discussions today and a variety of correspondence it is regrettable that we have to announce that The Burnie Trophy Centre NWBU Inc. Senior Roster will be cancelled tomorrow night. The NWBU Inc Executive will meet tonight with NW Thunder to further discuss where to from here. A decision and announcement on any future postponement or cancellations will be made after the meeting tonight to ens...ure that we are considering impacts for not only our competition, but our CAMS, and also NW Thunder. We have had advice from the referee group that their members are not comfortable to officiate at this time either. Following the communication from Basketball Tasmania and Basketball Australia we have had advice that many clubs have cancelled domestic rosters and trainings. We do know that schools have adopted social distancing and other sports are cancelling activities in our region. So it is with regret we advise all players, sponsors, members and supporters that the roster been suspended effective immediately and until further notice. Kim Robinson President NWBU Inc.

05.01.2022 Basketball Tasmania closes office for 4 weeks as the sport is officially shut down due to COVID-19 Basketball Tasmania has closed its office from this coming Mo...nday for a period of four weeks with all staff on Annual Leave. Along with other sports, basketball is officially postponed until further notice with no games or trainings. Yesterday’s announcement of the postponement of the NBL1 competition for 2020 follows all other major competitions around the world and in Australia NBA, NCAA, Euroleagues, NBL and now NBL1. BTAS CEO, Chris McCoy stated: Basketball Tasmania is committed to coming through this unprecedented situation with our sport and staffing team ready to attack a bright future. We are fortunate that our balance sheet is quite robust and we will be working hard to keep our excellent staffing team with us during this time. In line with this commitment, our staff all agreed to using their annual leave entitlements to assist the sport in a time where they cannot travel anywhere. Basketball has a fantastic history and a very bright future with huge advancements over the last few years internationally, domestically and certainly within Tasmania. Along with other sports, we look forward to playing our part in leading the community back from these ‘extremely difficult times’. BTAS staff will resume duties on Monday 27 April with a plan to revise the 2020 basketball calendar from this time.
